What is elo boosting?

I know someone who has a smurf which is also someone else's account and he plays with me sometimes on that smurf/friend account since he doesn't want to put me against too difficult people (though we are eligible to duo). Is what he's doing allowed and what I'm doing allowed? (I don't own any of those accounts, I just sometimes duo with him playing on his smurf/friend's account). Please be kind an issue a warning or something I just want to clarify so neither of us breaks the rules.

He's not doing it to boost his smurf's elo.

Elo boosting can mean either of the two:

  • a certain someone who buys a boosting thingy at a certain website, increasing his elo(eg. Bronze to Diamond) just by paying without having to play a single rank game.

  • when a Challenger player helps a Bronze player by playing his account to a higher elo, which does not show any originality from the Bronze player himself.

And yes, any of the two will involve getting a straight permaban.

it's breaking the rules to play on someone else's account, no matter the reason. elo boosting is when you play on someone else's account and bring them up in ranked. smurfing is allowed is it's his own account.

Well he's "smurfing" by logging in to someone elses account. A friend of his. He does this only to play with me so I don't have a hard time, it's for a good intention I promise.

Since I duo'ed with him will I be fine?
