Can we have more events that lets us spend IP as opposed to RP?

As title suggests, in future events can we have something to spend IP on instead of RP? This Chinese new year event is horrible for anyone who doesn't have RP. Also I am kind of getting sick of Riot forcing things into the hextech crafting. You did it with the new PROJECT skins, you did it in Christmas, and now you are doing it with the Chinese new year.

What happened to the old fashioned 1500 IP icons and such? This years Chinese new year event just seems like a big money grab event.
