An Idea for Solo Queue Matchups

We all know that solo queue's don't work. We always seem to get grouped with an incompatible team, trolls and afk'ers. What if Riot were to pair folks based on their kill and objective participation and then by KDA based on role. Basically, team builder for solo queue with the auto matching based on certain criteria rather than simply in queue.

Think about it, people with 60% objective participation and a positive KDA all on the same team in roles they prefer to play. If you want to continue to troll or go afk then you are grouped with similar minded people. Meanwhile that 60% group is inching up to 65 or 70 and progressing. Then, the only thing you have to really worry about is being out played as a team or having a poor comp vs their comp - forces you to get into the mechanics of the game to progress - well for those that want to see challenger before they retire to a nursing home.

With this concept though, you can't have a gold substituting for a bronze. The team builder needs to restrict 1 band up or down even if the other criteria is met.

I think this is the way to go.

It's not a bad idea, but it's not new either. The issue is it creates what's known as a "prisoner's island". Once you start getting grouped with other "prisoners", the overwhelming majority of people become more negative, more troll-y, and have/create a worse experience than originally planned/hoped.

I get the Island concept. I think the participation part is the magic sauce that breaks legitimate players from the rest. These are players willing to work with the team to complete objectives, coordinate team fights and otherwise progress. The second part is the KDA component - less impactful but no less important.

So, I don't think the Island relegation really applies here. Besides, how is what we have now any better than the isolated cases of the Island? Unless you have a duo queue partner you are rather doomed as a solo queue player. Does that mean we are all on one great big Pangaea, doomed to be the bottom 80%? I hear tell that plat and challenger aren't fairing much better with cooperative play either.

Help me understand your thought Geowrain. This isn't ELO, you can still loose a game and because you participated in objectives and focused on playing smart raise your level of game play to work with more like minded players.

This is by no means indicative of you being promoted, a loss is still a loss. However, now it isn't because of a troll or afk players (might happen occasionally - Comcast is known for it), it's because you were outplayed as a team - something you and the rest of your team can work on for future games.

If you do not work to improve your mechanics, map awareness, or common sense then you will be left behind - this is, after all, your reward for not learning and growing - I don't feel bad if you aren't going to try to improve and then get relegated to an Island - I prefer not to play with you in ranked (against you, yes. with you, no.)

When you are sick of being on the island, you can get off the island simply by - building a boat - no, by improving your performance.

That's so exploitable. People will just be going for kills and objectives and not care if they win or not.
