Why mute people? Why even care?

I am very curious why people mute others. If someone talks s**t about you or your mother, offends you, swears or generally types unpleasant things, what is it that pushes some to mute them.

  • Your sense of aesthetics gets assaulted and you have to protect it?
  • The BS resonates with your dark childhood and you get sucked in the spiral of negative memories?
  • You just can't handle the stupidity or something?

I just never understood the need. "Man, this guy is r%%%%%ed" - someone thinks. "It sure would be great if i didn't see what he types". Can't you just you know... ignore it? Filter for the scarce useful info you might find? Laugh at him? Amuse yourself? Learn about human psychology?

How does depriving yourself of data could ever help with anything ever?

TLDR: Grow a pair and don't use the mute option.

Because adults don't like to listen to little shits bitch and moan in chat while they're playing a game they actually have fun in.

You don't have to care necessarily, but its annoying to watch and distracting to gameplay... so you mute.

That is pretty dumb, if someone with BO sits beside you would you just grow a pair and sit there or move? If someone didn't clean up after their dog, would you grow a pair and step into it anyways or avoid it?

On an information-theoretic basis, The SNR of a rager is extremely bad.

If they're flooding team chat with junk I would argue you're probably much more likely to miss useful information from your other teammates than to gain anything useful by not muting them.

Also, just because I can put up with something doesn't mean I want to. If I find someone's angry comments amusing I might look at them for entertainment value, but usually they're not very creative or they're just trying to boss you around in game.

I am an adult and find that false. Bitching and moaning is entertaining. Or at least informative. But well, maybe some people aren't thick skinned.

Mute button is the digital duct tape you use to fix all your problems.--slap that shit on their mouths.
