A Cool Suggestion <League Trading Cards?>
The idea is pretty simple. It comes from the trading card system steam has in place. The trading cards are acquired by simply playing your games, and booster packs are dished out whenever the community consumes a large portion of the cards via crafting. Why not have a similar idea for league? Here's my suggestion.
Make a set of trading cards or runes/relics or whatever fancy name you want to call them by, and allow players to acquire packs that dish out a random assortment of these cards. Players can get these packs by playing a certain number of games, or being rewarded for having good behavior for everyone X number of games in a row that they haven't been successfully punished from (sorta like chat restrictions I guess?). Another option could also be to make it like a first win of the day kind of thing where players are rewarded for playing actively at least once a day instead of playing A TON a day, and this also with setting a level requirement of summoner level 30, could potentially restrict bot-farming substantially. These sort of trading cards (let's call them relics because that sounds cooler), would allow players to gain a variety of potential benefits upon completing a set, which of course could be randomly picked from a variety of potential rewards. The relics may also come in a variety of rarities that would give greater rewards or more "rare" rewards depending on how rare the set is that is completed. Here are a few ideas for the rewards.
- A 4-10 Win IP boost (depends on the value/rarity of the set they complete).
- Unique Icon for your Summoner's Profile (Could be rather easy making a lot of icons since it's a tiny picture and could make some cool ones to collect).
- Unique Champion Skins (These skins could be rather rare and even rarer depending on the rarity of the set)
- Profile banner custom art (not required but could be cool to customize this part of your profile for potential readers)
- Ward Skins (who doesn't love ward skins?)
The question arises, however, "how will Riot make money off of this idea for all the work they put in?". That's a great question. Taking another similar idea from the steam version, why not make the relics (cards) tradable on a sort of virtual marketplace? The cards can only be traded for Riot Points (not IP). This would mean that players who want to get a particular set to get a specific ward skin they like or a profile banner art, or even a champion skin would buy Riot Points from Riot (therefor giving Riot money) then they might use that RP to buy the relics to the set they are trying to complete. Not only would that benefit Riot in gaining potentially more income (especially since it is a sort of RNG system which means it's not guaranteed every set complete will yield that awesome skin for the champion you want), but players who might not be as interested in those particular skins (or got the ones they want already) could sell their relics to other players for Riot Points which means they are getting something out of it too!
It's a pretty cool idea, and if adapted to a league of legends version, it could be a lot of fun and a great source of income for Riot!
