I play alot of Skarner. With this new patch 5.16 i played him 7 times and every game someone in my team types "wtf is that" (and pinging on the altars). One game my top laner picked Darius and then types "wtf, my q takes forever to cast, was Darius changed or something?" (his alternate pick was Garen, and he asked to go top lane) All that in ranked queue gold 1

I honestly don't get why people aren't curious about what riot is doing to break and balance the game. i have only seen 2 or 3 "slight balancing" patches in the last 2 years. there is almost always something to look out for, if your eye is keen enough and you pay attention.

I already played with people who blamed the enemy of "Movement speed hacking" when one of them buyed Dead Mans Plate. Being surprised why Garen's ult deals true damage. 5 minutes of work, and it can prevent a lot of trouble. I don't get why people don't do it. Especially on high ELO, even the slightest damage increase or CD decrease can make a huge difference.

Sure, most people will just read 1-2 champs they like or just scroll and skip it all together, but at least it says "Hey! There are new changes. You should read these for the same of you and your team."

rework. he was ust straight up trying to duel her and several times just played "rock em sock em boppers" with her after she ulted him. HE didn't know about the %health damage, the heal, the anything. we lost hard after she went on the carry and crush everyone else.
also had a game last night about my brother picking. he kept whining saying " top and mid are taken morde." "morde we need adc" "morde they're taken. go adc"
he had no clue morde is numero uno bot lane now.

That Draven player from your team probably got his information from the champion spotlight on the champion info page. Why is that thing still allowed to stay up on there with obsolete information that conflicts with the rest of the page?
On the flip side, let's look at the page for Ekko or TK. Where is the champion spotlight? Where are the ability videos?
The official help pages are chock full of obsolete and missing information that only serves to make a beginner's day hell. And Riot said they want to improve the new player experience.

People don't even notice major events with rewards, yet alone patch notes. So people like you are at an advantage. I mean there is gold star next to the mode, do they go in blindly in to the mode, not reading about anything?
Riot cold make news about changes to pop out more in the client, But on second thought they don't have to. For so many of them all that is labeled under "BORING". Imagine a 12y old, just came from school; He is not gonna read shit! He will be "Lets crush some noobs!" He is there for fun doesn't care for the particulars, doesn't want to do the math of the changes, he just wanna kill everything on the rift right away. For most of them even if you give them the link to the notes they wont bother at all, maybe only if they get a free skin for reading the notes they'll try to read it.

A Liberal4 votesI feel you, had a horrible game today where my support was AFK as bot lane morde so I had to ask the jungle to come to lane with me to which he flamed me for not sololaning vs Jinx and Sona, even after I repeatedly told him that I really couldn't solo lane as my main source of sustain and mobility were linked to another person, as well as only one of my abilties (Not counting R because it was pre-6 and not counting w because I had no support) were ranged he flamed me more and told me that he plays morde all the time and that I was retarded for not casting on minions and that my q does huge AoE effect damage.
When I asked him if he knew about the rework his friend chimed in and said that he tested morde on pbe and that morde should totally be able to solo lane vs a a duo bot lane.

If you're playing Ranked though, then you really should be aware of the state of the game, and what has been buffed or nerfed. Not only does that massively effect your team and your picks, but it gives you a distinct advantage over players who aren't aware of patch changes. In a game mode that's all about getting advantages and advancing in rank, there's really no sound reason not to use that free knowledge.

Look at popular lol youtubers, and even non-pro lol streamers, and you'll find a lot of very popular individuals who don't play the game seriously, and just play for fun. Those individuals represent the majority of the league community. Most people don't play every day, they don't read patch notes, check the forums or reddit or watch lcs and worry about the meta. They're just people playing for fun.
For individuals like you, who want to play competitively, but for whatever reason don't want to play ranked, then I'm sure normal games with casual players is annoying. However you can't point out a rule in their code of conduct that states you have to read patch notes. In fact, I'll be impressed if you can find me ever 1 game that makes reading patch notes mandatory to play their game.
The simple fact is that most people in normals don't care enough to know these things, and that's perfectly fine, regardless of what you personally think.

I agree that Normals is supposed to be more "Dick around" Than ranked, sure. I don't mind that. What I mind is people Degrading the Normal queue as if Ranked is the only queue that "Matters."
I Don't want to play competitively. I want to play with Teammates who are actually up to date on the game.

I hate to break it to you, but you don't have to read the patch notes to know what a champion does either. You can either play the game and learn what it does, or even just see the champion preview to get a basic understanding of the champion. No where did I say you should know nothing about the game at all.
Chess is actually a great example supporting my case. In chess, there are literally entire books dedicated to the various moves you can perform as well as strategies that can be employed. At a base level even a novice can understand the basic function of the pieces. However the more intricate moves and strategies those pieces employ are generally beyond a novice.
Do you think chess players who don't have all the move combinations and strategies memorized should be looked on with disrespect? Do you refuse to play with people who haven't read at least one book on chess?
The same applies to League. I'm not advocating knowing nothing about the game when you play. I'm not even saying you don't need to know all the champions. What i'm saying is that you don't need all the patch notes and indepth detail. If I know how kayles abilities work, I don't really need to know she lost 5 base ad this patch. The same can apply to reworks. Garen has changed, but the fundamentals of his abilities are the same. The same applies to Darius and even Morde. Yes, you'd have to adapt to the changes, but so does everyone else. It might take someone who doesn't know what the changes a little longer to figure out the nuances (either more games, or them looking up the changes after their first match against it), but that's fine. I can guarantee you people who read the patch notes are still going to struggle to adapt to these changes.
Here's a question for you. Without looking at patch notes, do you remember what the most recent changes to Ryze were? What about Ahri? Tristana? How about Urgot. If you don't remember in exact detail the number changes, then why look down on someone else who doesn't know that information, but for a different reason?

And no, it's not OK to let your team lose because you don't know how to play your champion anymore. There is a distinct difference between playing Braum without knowing he had his Q buffed and playing a champion who has had major rework done.
Your Chess analogy is flawed. You think it is ok for a player to sit down to a Chess match not knowing what his pieces do. That match would not be enjoyable for either player, as his opponent would be forced to teach him the rules. Or just sit there and say 'No, your piece cannot do that. Try again'. We are not talking about advanced strategy or theory here. We are talking simply about bare bones basics.

So one thing I'm curious about is when a new champion is released, or you want to play a champion you've never played before, do you honestly go to the wiki, examine all their abilities, their ratios etc, before playing, or do you just go into a game and try them out?
Most people I've encountered try champions for the first time in either a bot match, or in normals, and at least with people i've played with, both randoms or friends, they learn by reading their abilities in game, not through guides or the wiki, or patch notes. This is viewed as perfectly acceptable by the community, so I fail to see why trying a reworked champion in a normal match without knowledge of the changes would be frowned upon. It's pretty easy to read the abilities before minions spawn, while walking to lane, in lane, or while dead.

Maybe at Bronze it doesn't matter if you read the patchnotes, but at the OP's level of Gold/Platinum I am sure it does mean a little more. Wasting 20-40 minutes because someone doesn't know how to play a champ is just plain rude. There is a reason there is a "Player is unskilled" report button.
