Anyone else have a smurf banned for "MMR Boosting" ?

My Plat 2 smurf was banned today for "MMR Boosting". Anyone else have this? I only play it to duo with friends or play normals.

Do you not understand what MMR boosting is? Because playing ranked on a smurf with a friend is definitely that.

I was playing with a friend I met while playing through Plat, He is Plat as well. We duo bot lane when we play together. Riot stated in the boosting statement that duo'ing isn't considered MMR Boosting.

Duo'ing isnt boosting, but if your account had an unusually high winrate, I can see it getting flagged as boosting your friend. IE making an account simply to level a friend. It would be fine if you duo'ed on your main with him, but you did it on a smurf. Thats the key distinction.

My main is Diamond, I don't know the guy I was duo'ing with all that well. He's just a ADC main that I liked playing with so we started duo'ing as I was maining support. We both have around 70% win rates on our main champions. I remember reading that even playing with someone on a smurf isn't considered MMR Boosting.

This is probably worth submitting a ticket about, given that the key line in the Riot statement is:

"As long as both players are playing on their own accounts, we don't consider it to be MMR Boosting."

An alternate account is still your own account, as long as you created it and leveled it up yourself.

You're playing RANKED on a smurf account, with another player, which is boosting, because you're playing on a SMURF (i can only assume your main is higher than your smurfs ranking) and giving the person you're duo'ing with an unfair advantage. So yes, you do deserve the ban in that case.

riot doesn't consider a secondary account for the purpose of raising other players rankings, which is what you described, to be your own account. For them it's the same as if you logged onto your friends account and played for him. And while yes i might still be misunderstanding riots intention, and you could be right, i still don't see any problem with the ban IMO.

i'm not though i can see why you'd think so looking at my post. I believe it was the "to duo with friends" part that got me thinking along those lines, and my own assumption that you weren't in range to duo with them on your main. However most likely your winrate was probably just too high in ranked and it made your account suspicious.

that's probably why then, ideally riot sees a players winrate should be around just over 50%, so if your winrate is 70% and has been that might explain why, though honestly i'm pretty sure my winrate is around that in ranked right now, so who knows.

Just checked on my Plat 3 smurf and there was no punishment, I suggest that, if you really are on the clear, send a ticket.

MMR boosting is when you play on someone elses account..... i play with a much higher level person all day every day and he sees no punishment for "boosting me" when in reality hes my best friend
