So Yasuo, Hecarim, Graves, Riven, Lee Sin, Evelynn, Shaco, Khazix were all open. I think they managed to ban Rengar, Darius and one other.

Now, I'm not even lvl 30 yet and haven't played for a bit, so ymmv...
People in and around your ranking (barring the smurfs) just ain't good enough to play champions to their full potential. That means there's really no such thing as a game lost in champ select (it's much more important to play the champ you do have to potential), and bans are much better used to get rid of stuff you hate to play against. In short, I'm surprised that made you dodge.
Admittedly, I'm somewhat puzzled that someone hates Taric so much they felt the need to use their ban slot to remove him rather than Evelynn or Shaco. Urgot and Heimerdinger have unique playstyles that might make it hard to play against them if you're not used to it, so ok. But Taric?
It seemed like there was a duo in the lobby that was trolling and I didn't feel like playing with them. Also didn't feel like possibly playing against Yasuo or a ton of other OP champs because they weren't banned
