Why should we lose LP in ranked matches when a teammate goes AFK?

There have been so many times I have lost a ranked game because a player goes AFK. It doesn't matter if it is connectivity issues, Life Issues or anything in between. Why should the rest of the team be punished? I have been demoted a number of times due, in part, to the absence of teammates. I do not believe this is fair to the other players. I sympathize with the other team when it happens to them because I know how it feels. I would not want to see someone demoted due to an AFK player. I hope that there is something that can be done about this issue. Maybe a reduced LP loss? Maybe no LP loss? Maybe even if someone goes AFK for a certain amount of time the match ends and it results in a draw? I'm just tossing out Ideas. Maybe there are a few people who can relate with what I am saying.
