Pick Order

When we click that big PLAY button, and decide for a game in ranked. We know we will get paired with people that will likely want the same role as you do. When you join the room, no one speaks. You say "(role) pref," then the first pick picks there champion. You are third pick. Second pick decides to take your role that you called for. What do you do?

This has been a problem for me for a while but only in a couple of games. I play a pretty common role, mostly mid, which a lot of other people want and get before me. I am fine with dealing with people who pick before me. By that I mean separately and before. But when people are just above me and decide to autolock mid even though they know I want it but say "pick order" as an excuse. It just pisses me off.

I just had a game with one of those people. I got into a game, called mid, then while we picked at the same time, he autolocked gangplank mid and tried to tell me that it was all pick order. He told me it was a part of the summoner's code but I checked and it only talks about supporting your team (real good job he did there). I stayed on my vel'koz because the person below me did not want to support, so I respected him and went support vel ( I would have gone Janna but they already had Janna). The gangplank then just harasses me all game to the point I just hate the game and just want to surrender asap. Easily the worst game I've had in a while.

  1. Blind pick rules (whoever calls it first if you are picking at the same time)
  2. In order rules (whoever is above regardless of when you pick)

Honestly, I consider anyone above me to pick before me. Even if we both pick at the same time, if you're 2nd and I'm 3rd, I'm gonna let you have the role that we both want simply because you come before me on the list.

In return, I've noticed that most other people seem to follow this same general rule about 95% of the time in my games.

Pick Order isnt in the Summoners Code, however, its stated as a useful tool to avoid fighting in the pre-game lobby, the problem with this, is that even though this is a teamwork game, it actually promotes abusing your teammates into positions you do not want, so it's actually, like many things unhealthy for the game, it also proves when a team isn't being cooperative.

unless they decide to give you the spot its thiers to take but they should communicate where they are going people want to be quite and pick a champion and think that secures where they are going like champions cant go into another lane. blind pick operates on first called first served but some times there seems to be problems depending on connection

I wait 15 seconds, if they haven picked i am assume at that point that they are allowing me to pick first. If we happen to pick a champ at the same time, its never a big deal. I see if they lock or change and try to talk to them in chat. At worst since i do not auto lock as the lower pick i take another lane.

Pick order is what Riot has endorsed as the correct system in ranked, there is a link to the post on forums where this is from. Pick order is meant to be a last resort when settling disputes and communication always comes first but if no agreement can be found then Pick order is what should be followed.
