Getting trash talked for off meta champion picks

This is something I'm starting to think i'll never understand... a lot of people say they get raged at by their team in champ select when they want to go an off meta pick... but everytime I do my team just seems to either be intrigued or completely indifferent to it, like my recent blind pick volibear mid where my teammates were 'ohh voli mid, I like that!'

It's these kind of games I wish more people had teammates like mine :(

(i also played a lot of toplane leona, jungle ashe and katarina in the past and only once or twice i've had people be unhappy with my picks)

Is there a specific set of circumstances needed for that kind of stuff to happen or what?

LOL my team was extremely generous last game when our top laner picked Bard , and it turns out he obviously didnt deserve our respect.

It really pissed me off the other day when I had a game where I wanted to play singed top in a normal and had it banned out from under me by my ADC. He was too afraid of the "OP singed pick" apparently. It's not even THAT off-meta, it's just that the style that singed runs (especially as proxy) is so unique people think that you're trolling and attempting to throw your chance of success.

Honestly...I only get critical of champion selection when it comes to my supports when I play adc. I can deal with some of what I would consider off meta supports like malphite, galio or ashe. These champions provide a ton of utility and, while some of them may scale well with gold they don't intrinsically NEED it to provide their utility. When I see someone pick something like nidalee, leblanc or zed support I tend to immediately get suspicious. These characters need gold to get their core items to do their jobs, which means that they will usually play aggressively to get that gold because as a support they don't get a ton of farm. This is incredibly risky, in my view, and we either snowball or...basically feed. I'd just rather not take the coin toss in most cases.

Anything else goes, as far as I'm concerned. If people want to try their champion/role I take the vote of confidence that they at least know the risks and the basics of what they're supposed to do. We've all been there, where we want to try something either for giggles or genuine curiosity. It's why things like the Ultimate Bravery challenge exists.

It really depends on what champ, where you take them, and how you build them, there is off meta picks, and then there is just being a dumb ass picks lmao, i mean if you go AP jinx jungle, like what the fuck is your problem lmao, but i mean if you go voli mid or something, that's honestly not bad considering i see varus and ashe and random adcs in mid lane now aswell as jungle, so aslong as its not a total braindead off meta pick than it should be fine, iv'e honestly never liked the "meta" it takes away a lot of freedom and fun you could have.

Keep on being innovative and having fun is all i got to say, just dont cause your team a loss by something REAAAAAALLY dumb like AP Jinx Jg, iv'e seen it, it doesn't work, don't even try it.

Depends on the team really, I've played things like Ahri top, Morgana top, Vayne mid at times with no issue, but I picked Leblanc support one game and the ADC threw a fit and went mid.

I get trash talked for taking Taric top lane or jungle. My jungle Taric isn't the greatest but when I head top lane I love making Rivens cry and complain about how oppressive I am in all chat :)

It's mainly because in the past everyone's seen some real innovative shit that completely loses the game, feeding harder than the red Cross in all situations, but also everyone has tried innovating themselves eventually so it's usually hypocritical of them to be mad in a normal game where you're just trying something. Though, some things really don't make sense and although it can be fun some picks are just better effort spent in a champion that could do that better with less effort.

I would guess the trash talking typically comes when you fail miserable with your off-meta champs.
