Old GP was probably more entertaining because of how much of a cartoon show pirate he was, but was bad because his kit sucked. Heck old GP spawned 4 years worth of memes and will be missed once this rework hits.
New GP is is overall just more serious and awesome.
Both are good in their own rights.
