Toxicity and trying to deal

Ok, I hate to add to the pile of "toxicity" discussions, but I had a game tonight that shook me to my very core and made me question if this game is worth playing anymore.

Here's the layout, I went into team builder playing Zyra as a bot lane support, it's not a role I just "took a chance" on, it is one I main when I'm looking for a fun game. The first game I was pulled into was short a player and eventually disbanded, but the second one, the one I went into game with was structured as follows: Master Yi jungle Hecarim Top Akalai Mid (me) Bot Tristanna Bot

we were put into a match against: Nocturne Jungle Jax Top Annie Mid Tryndamere Bot Vayne Bot

mind this isn't ranked or anything of the sort, I'm only up to level 19 which is supposed to be still in the "having fun" levels.

Game started as you would normally expect, everyone bought items, I prepped to go do my warding, Yi went to get blue etc etc. Yi and Trist both however impatiently started pinging at the buff even after I told them I'd be right there, I wanted to pop down my wards (like a good support should). Well for my efforts I got brutally attacked by Vayne (and if I hadn't taken my E first and stuck her in place I would have been dead), who even tower dove before the minions spawned. I knew we were in big trouble because they were an extremely aggressive bot lane. But I put my chin up, replaced my used potion, and returned to lane where once again Trin and Vayne were tower-diving my Trist who died very quickly.

That is where the harassment started.

"Ezera wtf don't **** chase (whatever the name they called Vayne was)"

even after they were pinging me to stun which I could have done with boots

so I died to a 3-man gank trying to set up a kill for one of my team mates, which in turn left 4 of us dead and several severely beaten but living champs on the enemy team

"OMG Ezera support so bad"

Yi tried to gank bot and since I was out of mana and a slow plant without boots (supports mind you as ANY player should remember don't get gold, don't take farm, they build support items FIRST as gold is scant for them early game) I couldn't save him. So I started taking abuse from him too.

"Ezera lost us this game" "Yeah I know lets surrender at 20"

This was less than 10 minutes into the game and I had only died twice, both Yi and Trist had died more times than I had. I was upset, I was trying but anyone that has ever played Zyra knows she doesn't have a heal ability, has absurdly low mana levels early game, and when playing support mage items are the least part of your priority, you need to rush sightstone and health items first as you need to keep vision control and stay alive to keep your team alive.

Despite how toxic it was though, and despite them threatening to report me for how badly I was doing, I kept trying for the other two silent members of my team. They were blatantly ignoring Trist and Yi, but never once did they speak up against what they said. I was trying, I was struggling against a destructive team comp that had one extremely fed Vayne.

When we surrendered at 20 minutes the stats were gruesome

Them Nocturne 3/1/4 6.1k 56 CS Jax 6/4/0 7.0k 77 CS Annie 5/4/6 6.8k 56 CS Tryndamere 1/4/6 5.8k 39 CS Vayne 19/3/4 10.8k 78 CS

Us Master Yi 2/9/2 5.5k 71 CS Hecarim 4/5/0 5.5k 60 CS Akalai 1/6/5 5.0k 39 CS (me) 0/5/3 3.9k 13 CS Tristanna 8/9/0 6.2k 29 CS

That entire game though those two players insisted it was my fault and honestly by the end of the game I believed it, I'm crushed. I felt like Support was the only role I was genuinely good at but now... I honestly don't think I want to play this game anymore. It's obvious that Trist could get kills and survive all without me, she didn't need me to feed her, and no one seemed to care about map warding because they were just hurling themselves into the fight any way they could. I was useless to my team. And should they have reported me to Riot I'm, I'm sorry I don't like the idea of being banned for not being able to fulfill my role, seems I can't win no matter what champion I pick.

I will give you some revelations right now that you will hopefully remember for the rest of your League games.

Facts of life in league:

  1. You will have multiple bad games in a row on occasion.
  2. You will encounter some people that will give up at the first sign of trouble.
  3. You will be in situations where you are genuinely unable to defend yourself; e.g. you cannot defend your performance because you are too far behind and/or allies refuse to help.

You must remember:

  1. Think only of how you can improve your play; you are the one constant every game
  2. Negativity against teammates doesn't help you win; anyone that disagrees is wrong
  3. Muting/ignoring are infinitely useful if you don't want to deal with flame
  4. If someone isn't playing well this game/on tilt, there is a 99% chance that you can't help them; do not feel bad about this because there will be times when that someone is you
  5. Being able to have fun or at least, be satisfied with your play is more important than winning; winning is fun, yes, but if you are going be a terrible person every time you lose or lose your ability to have fun while playing then you need to take a break

Important If you are genuinely a neutral/positive player, false reporting will do you no harm. If you are mistakenly suspended or banned, it is extremely easy to prove innocence. Don't lose your ability to have fun playing this game. Some people are just haters, they don't matter. Criticism is important for improving and many "veterans/high-elo" players will use this excuse (edit: to justify flaming), but how you portray criticism is also important. If there is rage, look past it and take the important points, the rest is irrelevant.

You ain't gonna get banned for this crap.

I Garentee it.

Here's the deal... You included the details of the game because you clearly know it wasn't your fault. Otherwise you would have just said, "I had a terrible game and fed and my team kept yelling at me." You know it wasn't your fault. However bad games happen and shitty toxic players happen. The mute button is there for a reason. You aren't obligated to sit there and take their shitty attitudes. Mute the suckers and do your best. For YOU. Not for other players.

Omnipherious hits it on the nose.

So... one of the main things you should definitely notice, you already know more about support than most lv. 19's. I mained support and I didn't know to rush Sightstone until lv. 25.

Supports doing what they're supposed to will go unappreciated until you get to the upper 20's. No one below that even understands the value of vision because everyone sucks -minus the occasional smurf (case-in-point, your Trist with 29 CS. That's really bad if you didn't already know.). I don't even remember all the badgering I did when I started playing trying to get my team to ward. They wouldn't do it. Then because you "waste" money on vision and Mikael's Crucible or something like that, they complain when they die because they expect you to bumrush the enemy like a fighter with an Athene's and Zhonya's. (Facepalm)

Take solace. You'll be appreciated at higher levels. Teambuilder is the best thing that's ever happened to this game. It's truly the most enjoyable mode for Summoner's Rift and more often than not, you'll have teammates who know what they're doing. You'll still get bashed for feeding if they die to said "fed" champ. Had a Hecarim try to pull "Riven fed him" trying to 1v1 a Nasus who outleveled him. lol Dying twice by minute 16 doesn't count as feeding -especially with no ganks. There will always be player who blames everyone else for their mistakes. I just point them out because I don't give a damn; how you deal with it is up to you, but they are here to stay.

I recommend having a good group of friends to play with on a regular basis. If I didn't have mine, I'd have quit some time ago. Friends make lol ten times better -especially if you communicate verbally via Skype or Curse etc.

supporting is hard without the right runes and masteries. I am not going to say you played wrong, i was not their

So warding by your team mates is not going to get any better. 80% of the time the support is the only warder.

When in team builder look at the comp . THe group you got in with are going to very aggressive due to their picks. Hec runs in, yi runs in, akilla runs in. Trist can(shouldnt) jump in. I would not want to support this team. either they were going to be head and face roll or lose.

To ALL the posters in this thread, "Thank You!" It was refreshing to see people being supportive, kind and encouraging. Can we clone you? :-)

I appreciate everyone's words, they did cheer me up a bit.

Looking back (as I am analytically going over a lot of my games) I decided to look up the two problem players on LoL king and I kind of got an interesting look at their main champions. The person playing Yi mainlines Sona "support" and when I say that it's just a way for them to play Sona bot lane because all of the builds of that Sona for each game they played were all mage builds, not only that, they had on average over 8 kills which explains why they were not taking kindly to my inability to "snipe" champions early game. The person playing Trist mains jungle Yi and ADC Trist with an average of less than 100 creeps for roughly less than 35 minute games (which yes RustyMuffins as I used to play ADC myself before I took to support instead (lack of decent supports) I know that anything less than a 100 CS score for a game that long is horrific). But the one thing that did get to me, the big difference between them and myself, is that they've won a much larger number of games than I have with their roles. I looked at the charts for my own profile on lolKing and they're just, enforcing the idea that it's really my fault, that I cause teams to lose.

I wish I had decent friends who would play this game with me, I would love to be able to explore more roles in this game and different champions, but I feel like every time I would like to try something I hesitate because I would be taking a newer champ into a game and just be a burden on the people I'm playing with. It's a game of teamwork but lately it seems like no one remembers that.

Well i'm a decent friend, but I'm not a very good pvp player. I sent you a friend request.
