Playful/Trickster is AOE

Just a little anecdote from a game I just played.

So I was playing a match of Black Market Brawlers as MF, with a Vel support. He was pretty good and wasn't rude to anyone or anything, but he wasn't...the brightest... during a little conversation. Enemy Fizz goes to kill him under turret, uses playful/trickster, and Vel'Koz dies before Fizz has landed with particles and everything. I ask why that happened (he wasn't low enough for it to have been the damage over time from Fizz w), Vel tells me that the ability is AOE.

...wut

I try to repeat myself multiple times, he says I'm not listening to his words, when he's talking about something irrelevant to what I asked. I give up trying to ask for the match, he says nothing as well.

So...troll? Or was he just lost extremely far in the clouds?
