Ever left league because of player behavior?

ApolloMk2·6/10/2015, 8:12:18 PM·29 votes·3,525 views

Have you ever taken an extended break from League of Legends because you were tired of all the raging, trolling, AFK'ing, toxic players???? Most of the people I know playing League have taken atleast one LONG (multiple months) break from League because of player behavior. I still feel like Riot doesn't do that much about it. I still constantly hear people cursing out others and bragging about how they've never been banned and never will be.

I really want to see Riot do more about this problem! A lot more can be done and should be done. Maybe if they realized how many people actually stopped playing the game because of this issue they would give it more attention.

UPDATE: So far thats 77 out of 122 players that have taken breaks due to bad player behavior. About 2/3 of the players; and keep in mind this is a survey of people active enough to be looking at the forums. Imagine all the people that start playing League, love it, but quit by level 20 because of this sort of thing. Players that otherwise might have invested years and lots of money into the game. This is just common business sense to address this issue. I'm not trying to flame Riot; I'm just again saying they should and could be doing MORE.

I see where you're coming from. This is why I don't play ranked very often, most people get extremely serious and that tends to lead to toxic behavior. This is why I tend to play with friends most of the time, its really amplifies how much fun you can have.

I really wish things were more like season 2 when i started, I remember the community was generally really nice and people would actually give you tips when you did poorly rather than saying "EZ game scrubz". This isn't to say everybody today is mean, it just seems that the really nice folk are few and far between.

But most important thing to remember, a little kindness goes a long way believe me, we all get salty from time to time, but if you keep it to yourself and even complement the dude who outplayed you, you may make a new friend.

Anidan6/10/2015, 9:34:24 PM8 votes

Yep. I take extended breaks from League because of player behavior because you gotta love those guys who do the worst on your team and still shit-talking everyone else. Now, I usually play with friends, but we can't always get a full 5-man going, so we usually go as 2-3, and we run into the biggest asshats. Like, I legitimately think some of them are such enormous assholes that their face transmogrified itself into a large ass with the sphincter located where the mouth would normally be on most people. In my games, since my friends aren't quite as experienced as myself (not bragging, I'm still terrible, me and all of my friends are - it's fun, though) I tend to do around the best on my team. So lo and behold one of the random pub dudes breaking the in-game chat silence with insults slung every which way and at everyone. Think he even hit the duck in the river with one of them. I don't mind if you're doing poorly, it's just a game and shit happens to everyone. But if you're doing poorly, don't insult other people. That's going to draw attention to you more than them most of the time. It's hard to try and pass off a critical eye when even a near-blind eye can see you're not qualified at the moment.

The behavior in-game that I witness in some of my games, not the majority or even a third really, is just so awful that it stands out and feels like it comes up more often than it really does.

I also take breaks from the forums, but that's because if you visit frequently it just looks like an enormous circle-jerk of "nerf [insert champion here]!" and no amount talking will dissuade them from their stance. Champion balance is starting to look like religion - everyone has their beliefs (or lack thereof), and an internet argument will only leave both sides angry and even more defensive of them.

I've been playing for a few years on and off. Still not great, but I enjoy the game. But, ya to this exact point I always stop playing after a few months because of people constantly flaming, raging, or AFK. Too many examples to give.

(And yes, ive dumped more than a fair share of money into it)

Rueian6/10/2015, 9:58:58 PM5 votes

Does breaks because of your own behavior count?

Baughwssery6/11/2015, 1:39:32 AM4 votes

Before I came back in May, my last game had been August 24.

PodunkTheMighty6/10/2015, 9:12:11 PM4 votes

Honestly Riot is the number one thing that makes me take extended breaks. Grind-focused ranked system, LeaverBuster punishing a guy who DCs the last 30 seconds as his team wins but not the guy who AFKs 90% of the game, costing his team the game but reconnects at the end. Chroma skins, champ reworks that miss the mark... Players are just people, but the people that control the game are the ones who affect the experience more than anything.

bvcderrttyyhjjjk6/11/2015, 2:02:51 PM4 votes

Yeah. Especially because I take it upon myself to never be negative, but I still see people doing extremely stupid things. The fact I don't say anything does not mean I don't get extremely angry IRL. And it's even worse when after feeding horribly and diving 5 people alone they blame others. This game is just infuriating some days. I somewhat believe that there is a lot of immature players (probably children) that have some incredibly stupid behaviours. So yeah, this winter I had to leave for a month to prevent myself from becoming toxic or ending up beating the snot out of someone... i think this game is a really long way from healthy, and would like to see a lot more people getting perma-banned for flaming or trolling. Would make it better for everyone.

Eleshakai6/11/2015, 12:08:59 PM3 votes

No, I left League because of Riot's player behavior TEAM though... if that counts.

blujadajhdja6/11/2015, 12:59:12 AM3 votes

Yep, and this is why I'll probably never play solo queue ever again.

227568666/10/2015, 9:12:54 PM3 votes

Yes,

i started playing League in Season 1 with hitting Level 30 in Season 2 and getting ranked in Season 2 aswell. I left League from June 2014 because i was tired of all the chat spam going on in a game. I'm main Support and you couldn't play a single game on another lane or another champion without getting flamed to death if you loose your lane (even in normal games, lulz). These guys were way to toxic. I came back 3 days ago and wanted to check out league again. I've changed my entire vision over the game and over the player itself. Everyone is different, play your own game, focus on yourself and mute the chat. Communicate with pings, and you got it.

TL;DR: Left League for a year, coming back with an entire new attitude over other players and enjoying it so far.

I'm pretty posative riot allows the # of trolls in game stay at a certain level to increase attrition rates. In other words getting players to leave is "as intended" because by the time you get fed up with trolls you have already spent the bulk of the money you are likely to spend and are just dead weight on their fragile duct tape server system they have.

they get rid of the people who have given them money to make room for new people to come give them money. Haven't you thought it was weird they could get away with not putting in an east coast server? Didn't you think it was weird that instead of more hardware (costs money) they are just making deals with other companies (FREEish)

Kãtãrinã6/10/2015, 8:13:18 PM3 votes

No i haven't taken a long break due to other players behavior. If anything the only "breaks" i take are from being busy with school and those don't last that long. Maybe i just don't care enough about the random people i encounter that it makes me want to quit, or i just don't get them as frequent as others.

nah fuck em all

S H A Y C 06/10/2015, 8:17:06 PM2 votes

riot cant do too much about it. a large portion of the world population is self centered and oblivious to anybody else opinion but their own and are under a firm but false belief that its everybody else that is the A-Hole. You are probably one of them and dont know it. If riot does too much to mitigate these people and their behavior they will not have enough of a player base to support their company anymore, and it is a poor financial decision to prevent anyone from giving you money.

Crunchyfied6/10/2015, 8:28:12 PM2 votes

No. You don't let other players get to your way of playing or your state of mind. You ignore all the trolls, all the toxicity, all the afk's, all the feeders and you focus on what is important. That is how you become better, you don't let them bring you down to their level.

And yes I have had my fair share of all the above as I was once in Silver V but when you ignore it and focus on your gameplay and how you can improve, nothing else matters because you'll eventually get better and leave all the trolls behind.

agbudar6/10/2015, 9:07:09 PM2 votes

like... all the time

Drackolus6/10/2015, 9:08:14 PM2 votes

Like, three days. Tops. At least, for that reason. My longest break ever I think was a month.

Manyrd6/10/2015, 9:24:23 PM2 votes

I have been suspended for game behavior... I play this game with 3 to 4 of my friends almost every time i am online. As anyone knows who plays with their friends, everyone has a select spot that they are starting in positions or lanes. If one person joins your que and starts talking smack to the whole team and not participating as a teammate, as the captain , or whomever the captain maybe should handle the situation, which i have tried to do on numerous occasions. I am not a pro but like playing the game.

I have been sent back screenshot copies of my text and my texts only about another player who just stands and watches teammates die cause he is not happy with the outcome of game or whatever the case may be. There is absolutely no cussing or foul language in the texts and i am getting reprimanded for it. on the other hand the other guy was rude , afk and talking trash to me and others in game nonstop and causing us to not only lose but not have fun. HIS TEXT WAS NOT IN THE MESSAGE. I ALSO GET REPORTED FOR AFK BY THE SAME TYPE OF PEOPLE WHEN I AM NEVER AFK. This is happening way to much, especially for people that put some money into the game. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. IT IS ABUSING THE SYSTEM. i have been hung up on for asking questions to the little kid at receptionist desk ( i guess) with a 310 337 7468 #. All he kept saying was i cant hear you and oh sorry im not paying attention. Is this guy going to be reprimanded and does riot games really want someone like this working for them when they are so for temawork and sportsmanlike conduct. I also havnt received any emails back for anything, thats why this is on the forums, which will probably be erased.

I would totally appreciate a response back from riot games asap, but it seems they dont care because their money is flowing in even though mine is frozen. If nothing gets resolved or if no response back , we will... well see and hope ...

Dracid6/10/2015, 9:24:38 PM2 votes

oh ya. I stopped playing for close to a year because I couldn't take the toxic behavior of people in this game. I don't even dare touched ranked now. Shits too stressful

Hyde from Darius6/11/2015, 1:33:55 AM2 votes

No because quitting because of what other people do is for the weak.

JESUSSAYSNO6/11/2015, 2:14:25 AM2 votes

I consistently leave for various periods of time due to toxic behavior and staleness of play. The game honestly isn't very diverse, but it's good at what it does. You've got assassins, bruisers, tanks, adcs, mages, early game powerhouses, and splitpushers. If something doesn't fit under one or more of these catagories, they aren't really viable. Kinda sucks, imo, no really unique playstyle. Usually play the game in one role for a few weeks, drop it for a month or two, then pick it up with another role.

ImHerVoice6/11/2015, 12:14:41 PM2 votes

Been playing since closed beta. Never took breaks from player behavior. I took breaks because I work full time. Now I work less full time. 7 10's to 5 10's.

Had a 8 month break after hitting challenger in KR before on my main "Jungle". Been playing eve since release. got to challenger while she was considered not trash by the community which apparently means broken as fuck to most people...lol. Her new ult needs to get replaced so I can finally ask for Q+E buffs again. Never gonna get her balanced with that toxic ult existing.

Yeah it sucks at killing shit but that doesn't matter. you buy liandires and do 250+ aoe damage(even though its percentage damage based off total hp) to an enemy team if you know how to use it, it ends games quite quickly lol.

tldr: I'm not a soft skinned child that lets some rager keep me away from a game I like rofl I do however get tired of trying to download the new patches 10+ times and take breaks every new patch fior a half a week or so until I can download the patch without it crashing a million times..

Iron IV dude6/11/2015, 12:53:13 PM2 votes

Left LoL 2 times for around half a year, currently i stopped playing rankeds because of this reason (WAAAAY to toxic)

Yormaughm6/11/2015, 10:15:44 PM2 votes

I've never actually taken a long break because of behavior. But almost all of my friends that play have. And some of them have quit for good.

It was much worse when I was a new player too. Back when you don't really understand what's important in the game (things like CS and trading objectives for kills.) It felt like every single game ended up with people bitching at each other for KSing (which I now know isn't really a thing.) I felt like I reported at least one person in 50% of my games back then. The grind to level 30 was definitely a not very fun time because of all the toxic people who don't understand the game, it's way worse below 30 than it is once you get there.

Believe it or not I probably would have taken a long break, or quit entirely if the Tribunal hadn't existed. The fact that I could go have a bad game, and then go punish people who acted the same way the assholes in the game I just played were acting, and then get reports telling me how accurately I had voted in the tribunal made me feel like Riot actually did care about improving player behavior.

There were even some days where I didn't play a game of League, but I made sure to go to the Tribunal every time it was up. It made me feel like I was making a difference, and sometimes it was just patently hilarious to see all the rage.

Slaaneshine6/12/2015, 7:51:48 AM2 votes

I've played this game since It just came out of beta, and after all that time, I've taken multiple breaks for this reason. But now, I just stopped caring. As I see it now, if my team wants to and deserves to win, they can. League has a golden rule, and that is "You lost not because the enemy team was better than you, but because they wren't as bad as you." Pessimistic yeah, but it makes enjoying the game more when you realize that no one is good at League, so you can suck in peace.

Plat sucks.

Jabril6/11/2015, 4:46:07 PM1 votes

I left and season 3 and finally came back and started playing again this season. I love the boards but i cant stand the in game community

TwitchInMyPants6/11/2015, 6:38:22 PM1 votes

Every online game has the same issue, it's only worse in League because you can't leave and immediately re-que like in most other games. You're trapped for 40-60 minutes. I've taken breaks from LoL before due to shit like that making it unfun tho I've not quit longterm just because of the community, usually I can mute people and resume the gameplay which is the fun part.

Celeste Benal6/11/2015, 6:53:25 PM1 votes

Just last night I got in a game with a pair that wanted to duo bot. Never a good sign. But whatever. You never know, right? So I keep my mouth shut.

They picked Reksai support and Xin Zhao adc.

I had a tough lane as Ekko vs Vlad. His sustain is insane. But I didn't feed. We lost. Post game the bot players for no reason suddenly start giving me a bunch of shit saying how I sucked as Ekko top. So look at their builds and stats, and pretty much shit myself at how bad and hypocritical they were. I'm seeing full AD support Reksai, and idk what the Xin Zhao was doing. HE called adc and had built Thronmail, BotRK, and Spectre's Cowl. Their combined KDA was 15/18/9.

So I throw a few choice insults right back at them and then leave to requeue.

On to the next game.... same two shitlords. They troll/flame so hard in champ select (random champ selects, etc) that the next 3 queues all get dodged. They even went so far as to intentionally pick Ekko (whom i wanted to play) just to piss me off. So I went Yasuo instead. What do they do? Irelia and Ekko bot. And what does the jerk say in local as soon as game starts? "First time Ekko." Their combined KDA this time? 13/30/35.

This is why people cry "Elo Hell".

One of my friends is extremly toxic and just angry when he plays video games, so me and him and a few other people would play normals and skype together. It got so bad, his raging and just general toxicity, that i stopped playing league for 3 months just so i wouldnt play with him. He is the only person i know who has been chat restricted. So we started playing again after my three month break, and just last week i told him im never playing videogames with him again, cause he almost made me quit. again. He is an ok dude in real life, its just videogames change him into a dick.

Remlap12236/11/2015, 11:54:53 PM1 votes

Oh yeah. Nothing as long as months at a time, but I've definitely just stopped for weeks on end because of the toxicity. Losing ten games in a row due to your team being just insanely toxic or AFKing doesn't make you want to play this game for a long period of time.

AsheGetsGanked6/12/2015, 3:39:23 AM1 votes

Personally I have a few reasons why i have to take long breaks from league

One: College is more of a focus for me Two: Game gets really stale, can only play SR only so many times before it gets really fuckin stupid. Three:Other games compete for time with LOL Four: Might have restrictions/banned at times. Five: Community is balls. Idgaf about LOL community anymore. I'm pretty much a short fuse player.

Like i took a huge break from LOL, like basically 4-5 months at least these past few months. I've taken short breaks also as well as several weeks off.

Vanjie6/12/2015, 4:40:52 AM1 votes

yep. i am taking an extended break now. these toxic players are ruining it for me. what is really sad is that they can ban the account but not the player. they need to ban the player's ip address from the servers.

ApolloMk26/11/2015, 3:24:24 PM1 votes

See Riot - So far that's 75 out of 119 players surveyed that leave and potentially stop spending money on the game because of player behavior. Putting in more effort to modify this behavior is both good for the players and your wallet!!

lIIlIIlIIlIIlI6/11/2015, 3:31:12 PM1 votes

Considering taking one now, constantly reported for playing non meta stuff. By my team if we lose and by the enemy team if I win for being a "troll". You can tell by my name it's currently AP doge. I'm getting reported in normals btw, because normals are full of toxic players as well.
