People say League has a terrible community

But I just want you all to know that my buddy, three randoms, and myself all just surrendered a 5v4* because the enemy team said please. We were joking around in all chat, trying to kill Lee in the pool (while Ziggs was W'ing everyone into the spawn laser :P) and it was just a really fun game, and I just wanted to share that 9 people took what could've been a terrible 5v4 experience and made it the most fun game I've had in a long time, and a perfect last game of the night.

Anyone else have any anti-toxic moments today?

1st of all, LOVE THIS THREAD!

My favorite anti-toxic moment that i've ever heard about was when, after a game, the losing top-laner complimented the winning top-laner and asked about the runes, masteries and build strat employed by the winner. Then the winning top-laner said thank you (not "too EZ n00b!") and they got into a discussion about it. That's whats supposed to happen. Oh, how that story warms the cockles.

This other time I had a DC and the enemy mid-laner insisted on letting our DC catch up! WHUUUUT? How cool is that? (A: too cool for skool) I have definitely had lots of fun losses in League. It's all about attitude and being ok when you derp or get outplayed.

When I have gifting RP to give out, I always gift some to non-toxic players who make the game fun for everyone. Especially when I'm playing on my non-Riot acct. ;)

Also: I think we have the best community. I don't care what anyone says. I felt more welcome learning LoL than I did any other game.

While playing ARAMs, which are inherently less serious than SR games but still competitive, I've seen players sit at base in order to make a game fair when someone doesn't connect, D/Cs or ragequits (or just has to step away to scoop the litterbox or feed the pet parrot. Moms OP).

League is a competitive, heartbreaking, exhilarating game, but remember... in the end, it IS a game. And we should be entertained. If you're not, you should ask yourself, Why?...

...ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED????

I played a blind pick with a friend a few weeks ago. I played Nasus top lane and happened to be in a mirror match. My client refused to load until 5 minutes into the game. I finally got in, but the opposing Nasus had already hit 6. I went up to lane, and he Q's me once for about a quarter of my HP. I type "OW" in allchat, and he responds "Sorry, meant to hit the minion."

From then on for the next 25 minutes, we ignored each other in lane and farmed. My team was wrecking the rest of his, but by the time teamfights came around, both of us still ignored each other. Even when one of us was the last champion left around.

I was playing with my friends a few months back and we were suffering a really brutal beating. All of our lanes were going poorly, we were making really noobish mistakes, it was painful. Chat had been kind of silent, but perfectly pleasant with a few niceties back and forth throughout the game. Just as our nexus was about to be totally wrecked (we had taken 1 tower at that point OUCH), the camera zooms over to the enemy base. They had surrendered, without prompting or even telling us they had given us the win. Needless to say our entire team burst out laughing and that moment turned what would have been a truly miserable loss into the second best win of my life (best win being the game where I hit 30, but that's another story for another time). We honored them all, and thanked them afterwards, but I don't remember the names of those honorable souls but I want to thank them for that win (and letting us end the evening on a high note).

Also, a thank you to the community in general for a great behavior that I see consistently; every time I have a toxic player, leaver, or disconnect in my game, every other player (my team and enemy) has been kind enough to oppose the jerk or apologize for the poor quality of the game. Most people in this game are nice so yeah, thanks for that.

While not today, I always want to give a shout out and thumbs up to anyone who gives people who connected late a chance to come back. Sure there will be people saying "You should have taken advantage of it!", but as long as you don't let them farm "under-truce" enough to get ahead of you then it's back to match of skill instead of bad luck.

My favorite anti-toxic moment was when the servers were bad so it was a 3v2 on rift so we all teamed up to kill baron when it spawned.

I remember a match where I was Lux and my opponent was Ahri so we agreed on not hurting each other and I adviced her when an enemy was nearby to her also Ahri to me, so after all my team was wrecking the other one, I shouted in the chat box: -Yayyyy!!- when she was safe from my team, also we could cs the minions without hurting each other (reaching level 18). My team was like: -You are toxic because you help the ahri of the enemy team- and I answered - We're just friends, it doesn't matter because she's also telling me when her allies want to attack me. So when the game ended (I won), I honored and added her to my friend list, we're still friends today :D

I've been having incredible teams in Bronze 5 today. Everyone is not only good, but nice and fun. I don't know if something changed or maybe there's something in the water but it's pretty fantastic. First time in a while that I've gone so many games without having to ask people not to be rude and I'm totally diggin' it.

Played a game once with a new Fizz. All chat was full of the OTHER team telling him what items to buy, how to launch his attacks and disengage, etc and it was all legit, no trolling or rage. We ended up losing, but it felt more like a lump you take when you bring someone new onto a team while they build up experience instead of adding another x to my game list. Was very cool.

I don't honestly think that the League community is as bad as people say. I mean, I rage as much as anybody else in a ranked game but that's mostly because those are my skills being put up for anyone to look at. When I go into a normals game I am usually with my friends and just wanna play to have fun. I've found some really good people in this community and of course I would change it but I honestly love this community. Even the FORUMS have amazing people on it. ArmaMalum is an awesome guy, always encouraged me to do better in ranked.

I've made enemies in a match and then end up making them one of my best friends because I got my head out of my ass and didn't think so highly of myself and so low of them. As an example, I was playing jungle Lee Sin and the Leona and Varus bot lane were in a duo queue. They fed the bot lane Braum and Ezreal and I got a little angry because a fed Braum in the late game is a living hell with a Yasuo in the mid lane. The Leona ended up becoming our shoutcaller and called us to do things and we came back from a 6-40 game and ended it 30-43 due to her amazing calls. I apologized to her in end game chat and we're friends now.

In conclusion, I'd like to repeat what Rito Girl said and just say we have one of the best communitys out there, no matter what anyone says. There are some amazing people in this community. Of course, there are those few who feel like being a jerk and ruining people's days but the majority of us are the ones who enjoy playing the game and meeting amazing people.

I also want to thank Rito for all their amazing work on this community and game in general. They have done such a great job, and the reason I don't feel guilty putting money into this game is because they put out all this for FREE and don't really ask us for anything. Thanks Rito for everything you've done for everyone and the game in general. <3

One of the standout moments I've had in League was a 3v5 normal match where 2 random players and myself rallied together, didn't rage, and actually managed to knock down the inhibitor turrets before the enemy won. I don't know whether the other 2 went afk or disconnected, but apparently Singed, Yi, and Quinn make a pretty formidable trio. And to top it off, everyone was honored afterwards.

Jungle Lux God7/10/2014, 3:49:07 AM3 votes

I remember a few players that were really nice.

I had this one Lux player in a game both of us called mid. Even though he called it first, he let me play mid. I eventually didn't play mid because I let another player play it while I went ADC. We played through the game, and managed to win the ensuing 4v5 that happened after our top laner left.

After the game, we both complemented each other on how good the other was at their respective champs. He said he had a lot of fun supporting me. He is probably the nicest player I have ever seen in a game of League of Legends.

I have also had a few other nice players that I got into some nice chats in the post game.

I don't think league has a horrible community. Sure you'll meet some toxic people every now and then but that's only like 10% of the community. I think the biggest problem is the mixture of casual players and competitive players in the same game. These two types don't have the same end goal in a game. This is what I think causes us to just have those games. But when the game is only full of casual players or competitive players, that's when people have all the fun. That's at least my opinion on things.

As far as stories, I have a bunch. One of the ones I remember is when we were losing the early game and decided to have a dance off in the top lane. There was another time where I was a top lane Nasus vs another Nasus and we called each other brothers and refused to attack one another, even in team fights. Those are the games I enjoy.

I didn't have one today (haven't played yet) however my team, all solo queue if I recall correctly, did do a similar thing a while back. It was a 5v4, the opposing team had what appeared to be a Yasuo support. He was a troll taking cs and brought revive teleport. He ultimately ended up afk-ing after feeding a few times. The opposing team didn't give up and fought hard regardless and made a lot of really nice plays. My team could've easily just split pushed to victory, but we surrendered mid game because we really thought they deserved the victory.

Another time my adc Ez d/c-ed but was still standing in lane and started aa-ing minions when they got close (the auto-path to home didn't initiate yet). The enemy Blitz could've easily grabbed him, but he recognized that he d/c-ed, asked, and chose not to pull him.

The other day three friends of mine and a Rando get into a game, for me it's my first time Nasus (and i've been playing for a little over a year) get to lane, Enemy top laner is also playing Nasus. So he asks "hey, wanna farm until 40 and see what happens?" i say sure, and everyone on my team and the enemy team agrees to let this happen except our Lee Sin(Rando) and their Warwick. So that's what we try to do. when the opposing junglers try to gank to break our agreement we let each other kill the jungler because in everyone else's opinion the junglers are being jerks. we farm until about 30 minutes and then decide to duel. I built ap Nasus, he built more traditionally, and had far surpassed me in farm/q-stacks, by about 150. First duel is near Baron and as i'm about to kill their Nasus, their WW ults me and kills me... so we set it up again, wait for ulti's and such, but go to Dragon this time, as we're setting this one up, Lee and WW go after us Nasus and our teams melt them. so, while thy're waiting to spawn we duel. i beat him by barely 300 health because AP Nasus is weird. But this game was so much fun because even with the jerk junglers that other Nasus was just an awesome player, he'd give me pointers and we just kinda chatted while laning. We even set it up so he could TP in for a "Grand Entrance" and had a teammate announce for us and everything... That guy(or gal, no idea) gave me hope for our community.

greygadget7/9/2014, 7:14:50 PM2 votes

I've seen a majority of player just care about winning, not about helping others learn to play champs or help them learn new ways of pushing out and to the win. A lot of the players honestly just play for themselves. This is a TEAM game and should be played as such. We all see this group of players as a community but a good bit of this community is greedy and corrupt. If someone is struggling, why not help them, we are trying to make this game better and better every day but just sitting back and watching everyone else get bullied or ridiculed for things just isn't cool, it will take a join effort, but if enough of us can show the others the right way, maybe the community will regain its credibility.

I think I'd be pretty irritated if somebody did that to me. Sounds super BM.

More in the spirit of the thread - a bit more than a week ago, I sustained a repetitive stress injury in my wrist that's kept me from playing league or really using my computer pretty much until today. I've switched over to a trackball mouse to reduce the strain on my hands, and my mechanics are absolutely god awful now as a result. When I mentioned this to a few of my friends, they all offered to let me play against them in customs to ease the transition period.

Obviously I'm losing all of the games, but it's made relearning my mechanics a lot less stressful than it'd be if I were playing 5v5s. I really appreciate that they're willing to take an hour or two out of their day to help me out, especially since the injury was kinda my fault in the first place.

This story is actually about my friend in solo queue playing Gangplank back in late S2.

He was winning his lane hard and killing the entire enemy team's fed members (teemo was one of them) but his team was still losing.

Somehow, later everyone decided to stop killing and said 'Let's have a dance party at Baron!'

Afterwards everyone attacked each other when Baron spawned, but it was all fun and hilariousness.

I had a ranked game the other day where starting straight from Champ select, we were having a positive team bonding experience where everyone was being friendly, suggesting champion picks to each other and was off to a great start. Our team coordination ended up with us playing well with each other, to the point where we were dominating our lanes. The opposing mid player across from me was upset after dying 3 times in <10 minutes and ended up giving up and trolling. Everyone on both teams acknowledged that we'll report her after the game and continued playing.

In the end, although our team was doing really well and having a good time, the other team ended up having a really fun game too. It was slightly frustrating for them losing because of the troll akali, but it was definitely one of the most fun 40 minutes I have played in awhile!

I also had a really fun game with Dyrus' dad last night, including skype call. He's quite fun to play with, especially with voice chat :P

I was in a bot lane and was playing as braum and my adc dced ( never came back ). So i just / danced in front of the enemy bot lane and then they started to dance too :D . Then everyone came down and we started dancing..really fun time xD.

This one game our jung d/c the whole game and late game, after i unfortunatly fed top lane hard (thats when our mid ragequit), bot lane wouldnt give up and said we could do this. The nicest ppl i have ever met, and they were right, annie defended our nexus and me and varus backdoored like crazy, and we won.

People are mentioning that top laners are like bros, sometimes when I'm supporting, the other support and I will bond in weird ways "nice cc you cheeky devil" "dont feed the support!"

But other times the adc's are toxic and spit at each other so we dont get to be buddies :<

Was this a Ranked match?

Also, did you report that Lee Sin at the end of the game?

The best anti toxic moment for me is when I mute my feeding team and have a piss-poor gaming experience beccause bronze is full with players who belong in the tutorial
