@Riot- from a future designer regarding toxicity

So, Riot. Toxicity has been a fairly big problem in the community for a pretty long time, and you've attempted to take measures against this with mixed success.
And so... I was watching an episode of Extra Credits on Harassment. I'll put the link below, but I'll present the basic gist of what applies in this post.

One- when players are toxic, other players tend to mute them. This isn't always the case but in general, this is one of the generally accepted ways of dealing with them.

As such, one of the suggested ways was to tally the number of times a player got muted and then, if they got muted X number of times over X number of games or in X% of games, punish them (the suggestion in the vid was to auto-mute them for everyone)

And so, I was wondering; would you think a system like this would work for League? Granted you'd have to take into account the people that mute everyone right from the start of the game but it would help, as it's easier for players than a report system and less likely to be so heavily abused, because while on one hand, the report feature can be used on even the most positive of players with little consequence to the false reporter, communication is a vital part of the game and muting is often considered a last resort by people because of how detrimental lack of communication can be.

On other notes; has a system like this been considered, and if so why was it denied? (as a hopeful game designer/programmer I find this fascinating.) What issues did you think it would cause?

Thank you

(Side note: what do you players think about this?)

just because I mute someone doesn't mean I don't want to play with them

they could just be annoying, but still a good teammate

also some people mute everyone every game, so others would get "mute points" attached to them for no reason

Well, as Riot has stated, they prefer muting to be a last resort since by the time you have to mute someone they've already probably ruined the game for several people. Also bear in mind that not everyone who's getting bashed mutes the target, either because they still might want to try and communicate with that person (I fall into this optimistic group) or because they don't know how to (more common than you think).
