Serious question. In terms of MMR, do I belong in the division I am in...
if I constantly get matched with plats/diamonds despite being gold? (and I mostly go even or win lane)

In normals? Yeah. Normals does that.
It could mean they are not in the devision they belong anymore and they are about to drop.
Otherwise it could mean you gonna get promos soon.
Really depends on not only you but them. I have an account in plat with gold MMR, doesn't mean the goldies Im matched with are at plat MMR. Only 2 ways of estimating your MMR really: If you gain MORE LP for a win and lose LESS when you lose, then your MMR is higher than your league. (+25 LP for win -10 LP for a loss) If its the other way around like my Plat account was (-25LP for a loss, +15 for a win) then you are in a higher league than your MMR score. The second best way to estimate MMR would be to look at your lolking score on lolking and compare it to the people you are qued with that you say are plat/diamond. Lolking score is essentially the same as the old rating "elo" system; however the other way of estimating MMR is more accurate.
Remember this is only accurate for RANKED. Normals match making is far more slack and MMR has little to no effect on this matches. On my gold 5 account I was matched against a Masters 1 Gangplank with a Challenger boarder from this year.... and I am NOT masters MMR player :)
