Open mid is by far one of the most toxic poisons to this game

How Do You Meta·11/17/2015, 3:03:59 PM·1 votes·455 views

Open Mid is a problem far worse than any of the mythical Disco Nunu's you heard about or seen in your games, it is a problem everywhere and you can't fix it with a removal of a summoner spell (or two).

Whether your team agrees to it, or even if someone suggests it, it ruins games and makes winning anything even more impossible.

If someone suggests it, that means they basically give up, even if they don't afk, they will just afk farm until the game is over without any intention of doing anything until it is all over, or they do afk. This also tanks the team morale and kills whatever is left, because then they too want to give up, and then it spirals downward until the worst case scenarios that they think of become a reality, not just because the enemy team stomped your team, but because they sabotaged, subconsciously or consciously, their game to the point of no return.

"But Meta, I just want this game to be over, it is a waste of time! I just want to go to the next game and go 20/0/18 as Lee Sin"

What actually is going to happen is that they will be on tilt for their next game because of how horrible the previous game was, and the cycle repeats over and over again, to get that "just one more game until I win" loop.

Snowkitty Nidalee explains open mid, you can skip his rant to the end if you want the summarized version without the explanation behind this concept:

"I seen open mid a few times, it is fucking stupid. So basically here is the thing about open mid that people that don't understand, and the thing is that this gets to a bigger problem, is where people circle jerking the hell out of Koreans thinking that they are so great, that they are so fucking fantastic, and they are so amazing, without realizing why they are doing things. It comes into the whole sheep mentality where people follow each other, not realizing WHY, they don't question WHY Koreans do this, the reason why they did open mid is because their culture is different. In USA, where are you playing, probably from home, you are probably sitting at home playing on your computer, yes, everyone is at home playing at their computer most of the time, unless you are at a hotel and then your wifi will probably suck. In Korea, a larrrrge amount of their gaming culture play in cafes, when you are playing in cafes, you are paying for hourly time, and when you are playing for hourly time, that means you want to make the most use out of what you are paying for, and they are paying for every single hour they are staying there, that means if they feel a game is lost, which means if they feel a game is lost, they want it over with so they don't waste their time, they feel like "I am paying for useless time because this game is lost", and so that doesn't make it ok to throw a game just because they FEEL like a game is over does not mean that they can throw for their teammates, just because they feel like they are wasting their time that they are spending money for, that they can suddenly cost it from everyone else who wants to come back who thinks they can come back, from stopping them. But it is a bit more easier to understand because they are spending money by the hour to play in a cafe, vs us who play in our houses and pay by the monthly rates, which is the thing that people do not understand the most.

** Open mid is literally the same fucking thing as "I am going to afk", it is NO different whatsover, it is just as toxic, it nothing different from "I am done, I am out", because both times, you have someone missing, you have no map pressure, you are demoralizing your teammates, you are just trying to avoid a ban, and that makes you a douche, that's it.**

you are wrong. in a matchmaking system you will lose 50% of your games no matter what you do. it doesnt matter if we are paying for our time or not; our time is valuable - we should be trying to maximize our fun.

if you can spend more time winning and less time losing, then you should do it. open mid is the right strategy for the path to more happiness.
