Is it just me or does anybody else feel uncomfortable with the "Demon" Vi skin? I'm a Christian who stumbled upon Brofresco's video for the skin a few days ago, which showed Vi having the Mark ( or Number ) of the Beast on her leg, and have been praying over whether or not I should quit LoL or not. In the end I am under the belief I am to stay and just see if I can plant any seeds of faith as I play the game but the thought of this skin being released still makes me uncomfortable. It just made me wonder if I was the only person who felt this way or not/why a person would feel the way they feel ( Even Brofresco said that this was "Edgy" for Riot ) about it. On a scale of 1/5, 1 being excited for the skin's release and 5 being enough for the skin's release to make you stop playing, where do you rate and why? I myself am at a four: If I were gifted this skin I would ask Riot to remove it from my account ( I refuse to accept the mark or anything glorifying it in any way, shape or form ) and if they were unable to do so I would have no choice but to then leave.

So, how do you feel about the "Demon" skin for Vi?

The big key here is the separation of reality from fiction. No I'm not going to be an idiot and say "demons arn't real" or anything, as reality really has nothing to do with this topic.

Demons, gods, angels, and other religious themed creatures have been a staple part of fiction for years. Everything from Dungeons & Dragons to modern television shows use these things to varying degrees in place of having to come up with new creatures to fit a similar role from scratch. It's all about giving the good guys something to fight and overcome as the struggle between good and evil is one of the oldest themes in literature.

Angels are already a canon part of League, so having their opposite (even if it's just a cosmetic skin) would be a natural next step.

EDIT: Just to be clear you have my upvote. You had a problem with something involving the game, and your first course of action was to start a discussion. We need more posters like you on here.

Does Morgana make you similarly uncomfortable?

Are you serious? Get the hell off the boards with this stupid crap. NOBODY cares about your religion. NOBODY cares about the 6/6/6 it's just a funny joke to add to the DEMON Vi skin.

It being a harmless skin is one thing but are you REALLY on the INTERNET discussing RELIGION?

It's people like you that make other people really REALLLY hate religious people.

And yes i'm a little "u mad tho" about this because Christians really annoy me when they try to complain about stuff like this. I for one would be pissed off if they removed the VI VI VI on her leg because of some religious bastards like yourself.

They better not touch my Waifu's new skin

You know, the Number of the Beast is 616 not 666.

The newer Bibles have so many copy errors ...

If THIS upset you, how much do you know about this game? There are demon CHAMPIONS and ideals in this game. Precisely, it's a game. I am also a Christian and this doesn't bother me because 1) Riot isnt forcing this skin onto me 2) It's just a game 3) This doesnt "tempt" me to satanic things or affect my religion in anyway. I don't think it should bother you that much. My opinion. Please don't rage at me ;-;

Demonblade Tryndamere anyone?

I am Christian to a point, but I want to explore this on a different level.

Actually, I do feel like posting something here that hasn't been said before. Let's discuss this from a purely anthropological perspective. Anthropology, being the study of humankind, should serve us well in keeping this away from christian or atheist (or troll...) arguments. Now let's look at the facts. Demon Vi is indeed a representation of a demon in the christian/catholic mythos. As has already been said, the designers of this skin probably made it for 2 reasons: 1, it's quite simply bad-ass, and 2, it can represent a champion that must be defeated by the forces of light and good. However, with that said in mind, the designer of this skin does have knowledge of the Christian/Catholic mythos and knows that VI is the roman numeral for the number 6. Making it appear 3 times like that is indeed some kind of homage or affront to Christianity - to be honest, who knows; it doesn't matter. What matters is that it's there. The question must then be asked as to why the designer of the skin felt it necessary to include such a "mark" which has deeply rooted cultural symbology attached to it. What matters is not the perceived power that the "mark" possesses, but the intent of why it's included. If it's meant as a joke or pun, then I have to put into question the designer's cultural sensitivity.

From a business perspective, does Riot believe that they're going to get the desired profit margins from this skin by excluding most religious people from purchasing this skin due to their beliefs? Who knows. But for that very reason is why I'd censor it. I want money, not scandals.

I will be buying this skin. I am a Christian. I'm graduated from a public university. I am mature enough to either ignore or be tolerant of the artwork in this game.

TL;DR - Remove religion from the discussion. Why does the skin have something which offends certain groups of people? Will it affect purchases of the skin and Riot's profit margins?

I'm open to questions and real criticisms of my arguments. If you troll this, I will not respond to you.

Do Ezreal and Taric make you uncomfortable?

Anyways, no it doesn't, and I was raised religious as well.

OP is the reason I have no hope for the human race

Ralantha10/9/2015, 1:23:07 AM3 votes

I'm uncomfortable with it because it looks cheesy and really gross in general :/ I respect your beliefs , OP, and anyone else's. I hope that you don't let it ruin the game.

DeynaTaggerung10/9/2015, 9:57:23 PM2 votes

It's edgy but I don't think this is something that is worth worrying about because it's clearly doesn't really have anything to do with the actual prophecy refering to the number 666. You don't have to buy the skin but neither does it mean Riot is endorsed by the devil.

Helmight10/8/2015, 8:51:22 PM2 votes

I'm Catholic and I've got no issue with the skin. Like Redniwedis said earlier in the thread, demons are staple fantasy creatures that have little to do with religion. Using Demon Vi in-game is not glorifying the mark of the beast or any such thing. It's just a sick-ass Vi skin :P

Adeptus Terra10/9/2015, 12:28:33 AM2 votes

This post is way to touchy for me to comment on lol. I think that you should reflect on how you personally feel about the game. If I were in your position I simply would not purchase the skin, that being said I completely understand where you are coming from, religion is a big part of peoples lives. Maybe ask your church leader or parental figure.

Sincarnation10/9/2015, 5:33:39 AM2 votes

Holy crap this is a serious thread /facepalm

Its a fun optional skin that you dont have to purchase, dont like its existence? Stop playing, no one will miss you. Don't want to support a game with demonic themes? Too late, Gatekeeper Galio and Infernal Ryze.

If there is a god out there petty enough to sentence people to eternal punishment over fake images in a recreational game, then it isnt worth your respect let alone your worship.

ModIts Yuu and Mi10/9/2015, 9:37:01 PM1 votes

Why does this have 13 upvotes, holy fucking shit.

I don't think it says anywhere in the Bible that playing a make believe video game where you get to beat up someone who has a pretend costume as a demon is bad.

This is so pathetic, holy, crap.

It's a make believe character, in a make believe costume, and if you don't like it? Go kill the people playing that skin in game, go slay every Demon Vi you see until they're 0/10.

Holy. Shit.

What the actual fuck.

FalconBlitzkrieg10/8/2015, 9:42:25 PM1 votes

I hope you realize that Morgana is a League's version of Lucifer, and Thresh is the Grim Reaper. Don't let your religion interfere with good/bad design choices.

DrCyanide10/8/2015, 8:05:37 PM1 votes

This is why I hate the book of Revelations, no one thinks about what's actually written there they just accept the media hyped interpretations...

Will Demon Vi, either by being in the game or by being purchased by you, cause you to get a mark on your right hand or on your forehead? Will you be unable to buy skins or sell skins unless you have said mark or type in "Demon Vi" anywhere in the client?

If you answered "No" to both of those questions, then it's not what John was referring to in Revelations!!!!

Understand your religion before you get blown about by every wind of "doctrine". Read Revelations 13 for yourself and see if any of that sounds like it's referring to this skin.
