Stop trying to make Vel'Koz support a thing

I'm probably going to get downvoted to hell and back by asshurt vel'koz mains, but idc. Vel'Koz support is not good at all, okay cool, he has some slows, he has a knockup, how the hell does that make him a support? Riven has slows and stuns too, do you want me to start playing Riven support? Okay, he was played in LCS. Greaaaaaat. Cause everything that is played in LCS is totally viable. Sarcasm aside, LCS players have a totally different skill floor than normal players. I'm not even joking, stop playing Vel'Koz support. I'm going to dodge next time somebody autolocks that shit. I've never seen it work, and I don't think I ever will.

He has all the tools required to be a support. It's no different from Zyra support or Morgana support, just a slightly different style.

To use your comparison... Riven's kit is all melee and she has relatively low base numbers so her kit is weak without gold. Vel'koz's base numbers are fairly high, so his damage and cc are still relevent even with few items.

He is like brand just a high damage support.

There is a reason you are bronze and its not because of Velkoz

Also people have been playing Vel'koz support before it appeared in LCS, Vel'koz is a really nice support imo this post has no valid logic

His base damage is high Works great with long rage ADC ex. Cait Long range ult True damage which helps against talk supports ex. Braum Knock up/knock back Aoe damage good in teamfights and enemy ganks

BTW played him supp the first week he was free.

it also has to do with his low ap ratios, which means he isn't as item dependent as someone like riven who needs items. this enables she to be gold staved as most supports are and still be relevant.

then there is what velkoz does. safe poke, some cc. aoe damage, if that giant eye ball actually wards what more could you want?

id rather have a velkoz over, sorka, sona, or bard.

He's got decent poke and decent cc, which is a good combination for a support mage.

Riven, while she's got cc, is ranged and can be kited to hell. Not to mention she's AD, and without solo lane xp and laning gold, she won't have a great early game and will never reach her late-game potential if she doesn't get fed (which is highly unlikely against a ranged carry and a utility support). Maybe if the Riven was the carry and you had a ranged utility support, it could work, but not Riven support.

Thing is, people weigh what a champion brings to the game and then decides what roles they're good for. For me, I can comfortably jungle with Morgana depending on my team match-ups, basically making me a secondary roaming support. Not all people can do that. Some people can. That's how Annie support happened, as well as Vel'Koz. It wasn't just LCS that starts these things, it's the pros who realize their potential before bringing them to LCS.

There is nothing wrong with experimenting if you see some hidden potential. Who knows, maybe a double apc bot lane could be viable in the future to delay adc's late-game in the tank meta. Just use your noggin.

  1. Riven doesn't have a slow
  2. Vel'koz is a better albeit less reliable support than Annie
  3. Vel'koz is a more damage and less utility oriented Karma
  4. This IS a thing, since he came out. People aren't TRYING to make it a thing, it IS a thing.

Vel'koz is a mage with powerful base damage and decent ratios, in addition to a true-damage passive. He also has fantastic range on his skills, which allows him to fit well in a poke-lane bot comp. As Elesh pointed out, he fills the same basic role as Zyra support.

It's actually a really strong pick, assuming he's played well and it fits the rest of the comp.

Maybe if you learned to work WITH your Vel'Koz's, it would go better for you?

He has a great kit to serve as a"utility mage", which is essentially what a support is.

In any event downvoted for "asshurt vel'koz mains"
