Why's the world so cold, quiet, and gray?

Hey, guys. I've been playing online games for YEARS. Since I was in elementary school. I remember when I was young, the online communities in every game I played were so.... Active and loud. Now-a-days, it's like "Stranger danger". I try to be friendly and social in chat, and everyone's just silent.. If someone does say something, it's either something toxic or "mid". It makes the game so unfun to play. i can't make any friends. Everyone's just too focused on "getting good" or "going pro". Where's the personality? Where's the fun and enjoyment? I can recall a time when I was discouraged from being so friendly because someone lashed out on me hard, telling me to shut up, that I'm annoying, etc. (ended up carrying, but w/e.) .... Man. You all are so boring. So, so boring. But it's not just league. It's almost every game. Even MMO's. What's with the xenophobia? Doesn't everyone like making new friends? Or is it just me? We're ONLINE! We can act like whoever we want to be. But we choose to be mutes.... How boring..

Even when it comes to strategy, people don't want to put in their opinions and thoughts. "Solo queue" doesn't mean you're alone playing with 4 robots. You're still playing with people, damn it, with working brains. There's a reason why they say "two heads are better than one," and it's even better when five people are communicating so that they can work together to achieve the same goal. It's not just a social thing for me. It seems like the whole world works this way once you think about it. All the nations in the world could join together as one and expand into fucking space. Get to exploring again. A new age, you know? But fuck. It's like we're not fully "Human" yet. There's still a large part of us that's "animal", selfish, and instinctual. Life seems bleak. Am I alone in feeling this way? Do any of you guys end up talking to yourselves for most of champ select and game?

I told my adc to check out my amazing waveclear earlier today, and used Tidal Wave on 3 ranged minions. Guess what his response was?

"report Nami"

Can't even have lighthearted fun in blind picks anymore! :(

That's exactly the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Why play a game if you're not going to have fun whilst doing so? It's like a job for some people or something.

To me it's all about the size of the community. Back in the day how large were the game communities you were a part of? I know mine were rather small, never numbering more than a hundred. It was a size where you could get to know everyone on a first name basis.

Now you can play with hundreds of people and never see them again. When you can meet everyone meeting someone new just doesn't have the same impact. That's why I play League with about 10 people, and occasionally we add someone new to our group.

I had three communities in mind while making this post, each with varying degrees of volume. I see what you're talking about, though. But even the Halo 2 community was fun and interesting to talk to and that community was huge (at the time). Hell, I stole my name from someone I used to play Halo with. From his cold, dead hands (Literally...almost). I feel like League, especially, is a great example of this. Because most of the time, you don't get mute people. You get hellishly toxic people who ruin the game and poison the community, making everyone more calloused and dry than my feet.

Well, to be fair, not everyone has the personality or able mind to talk to new people. Some just would rather be silently neutral and enjoy the game as much as possible. And that's fine. But as for the shitty people, they probably have the inclination that the internet and associated media is grounds for "I can be a huge dick and get away with it" because they have no common sense.

As for games in general, sometimes you'll meet lively people who want to joke around and have fun, talk in chat. Sometimes, you'll have silent types. Sometimes you'll get the assholes (unfortunately). That's just something you have to take into account when you play this game.

The internet became a lot more agressive over time, as it grew. It rubs onto everyone, including children.

Same with me. I remember a game recently were no one were talking in chat except me. I was trying to excuse myself for the mistakes I was making lol. No one answered. I would have prefer trash-talking over ignoring me. XD

In the lobby of teambuilder, you can see this more. You say Hi and only one or, sometime, two people answer. Sometime, I can get more sociable lobbies tought. They make, 75% of the time, good teams.

Yep, I saw this too. It's even scary because I do not know what they are thinking when not talking.

I encounter this sometime on roleplay forums where the new members do not go to the others and the other way around so the new ones will quit eventually.

P.S.: Sorry about mistakes in english.

So here is where you are making your mistake. You are not playing multiple round with the same people. You are not joining a server where next time you are with this player again.

This game is not like the ones you have played before. We are using a match maker to play a game, we are not gathering cause we like each other. If you are looking for community this is the wrong game for you.

Me and a lot of others are not here to socialize with strangers. I play with friends and everyone else is just a filler, that is bit better than a bot; with worse personality.

This is literally the reason why I DO NOT think they should add any more pings... People are always saying to add "good job" pings and the like, but then no one would talk. Literally when I say "hey" at the beginning of lobby, everyone just ignores me. Whenever I say "nice" or something in game people never say "ty" back. If I'm lucky, I'll get 1 person on team who's not toxic and actually talks like me. If Riot added more pings, they should just remove chat. I mean, League would just be anti-social and no one would use chat anymore, so what's the point... I remember around before level 15, everyone would talk to each other. Now, no one does. I believe a lot of this comes from pro-players who don't talk in game or anything while making commentaries or streaming even when someone says "good job" or "hi." It really puts out a negative idea to the playerbase that you should just play the game and only talk to people when you really have to or when you "need" to tell someone to "get good," instead of treating the people on your team... Well, as an actual team.

Hey, I'm not one of those mute individuals. I mostly only play League when my friends are on (because I hate those "mute" games), and I definitely know where you're coming from. Add me on League and I'd be happy to play a game with you!

Play Mirror's Edge.

Idk what is it with that game but after completing my first play through during a period when I was pretty much borderline depressed, that game somehow saved me. It made me appreciate modern society once more.

You should try too.

Nowadays whenever I feel sad, I always remember that game before cheering myself to go on again.
