A friend of mine reached out to me asking me to moderate a game he is wanting to release. he said he has been practicing java scripting. And when i asked him if it had a website everything was pretty much just created and posted that very day, also, I noticed that there were icons and images to other games I have tried and played before. And when I questioned him if the game had its own designs and graphics he said 'I haven't borrowed nothing' and that 'there is a base for it.' I just need to know if this is legit or if he should be reported. I just wanna know cuz I've known this guy for awhile and just found this an odd occurrence.. Is it too good to be true? lol

Well, there are open-sourced resources for game programmers/designers who want to use them as such, and it shouldn't be an issue as long as he credits them or something.

This guy gave odd descriptions saying it was like WoW but the characters the skills even the levels and level caps of all the skills are just like runescape. almost all of it is like RS but says its like RS, WoW and ESO and hes asking me to moderate it and in one of his personal messages to me said he hates jagex and wants to ruin them and hates them so much because they hardcode. The website is the link below. And I kind of just find it all around shady.

I'm not sure, I mean.. people have made clones of existing MMOs before, and managed to get it past the radar somehow.

Its not even released yet. I am just skeptical about getting hacked lol.

So am I. Which is why when it asked if I wanted to download the .jar file when I clicked on play, I just refused.

I'd suggest just waiting it out and seeing how this project of his pans out.

I mean I scanned the site and found no bugs. It just seems like the front of a massive scam or possible bugging if you ask me.

I also found the copyright at the very bottom of the page to be very very odd

Though, if he's not making money off of it, and it's just a Runescape clone of sorts because he's unhappy with how Jagex does things, I doubt there'd be much of a legal issue with that copyright.

I mean it just seems very odd to me, I mean, little does he know, I have been playing the game his site is based off of for friggin years. and i have no idea if hes planning on making money off of it. Im just not sure.

No clue.

Generally in my experience, it's best to track down the ISP of the server hosting the website and providing them with evidence of suspicious activity.
