[Idea] About Ranked and a simple, yet interesting tweak.
Hey!
I was just coming from what probably was my worst ranked game ever...Well, maybe not the worst, but onot far from that...
Some time ago, I started to rank heavily, trying to reach Gold, but it's always the same old story: Do the best you can, have an amazing number of kills, even more assists, stay positive, and boom! Your top dies every 2 minutes and you can't even run to his or her lane that said top already died...
Of course, this is just one of many examples of bad games, and this is not a rant, at all. The thing is, I started to think about why the results of games are rarely contested, and each game is a roflstomp, either in your benefit or your detriment.
So I started looking at the feeders in each of my games, but found that there was no conclusive answer there, as, most of the times, they were supposed to be as skilled as I was, also, team comps were not to be blamed, as I've seen 3 adc comps destroy my team in a matter of minutes. Maybe it's me? Well, I can't say I'm perfect, but I know for sure that I'm way below my true level of skill, but that isn't also the decisive factor in the result of the game, as I will, eventually, grow enough as a player and be able to carry harder, to make better calls, etc.
So, What did I have until now?
- It wasn't the feeders.
- It wasn't the comps.
- It wasn't entirely me.
All of that taken away, only one factor remained in the equation: My Team. But not as a group of 4 other players, no, my team as a group of diversely skilled people. So diversely skilled, that it caused games to fluctuate a lot between them. ¡There it was!
But, Why is this? Why are most Ranked games so fluctuating between one another? Well, a simple phrase in the Pre Game Lobby answered me...
Me: Staying in Silver V 4ever...
Teammate: This is Bronze IV lol
And there it came to me: Games are so radically fluctuating because we do not play with people as skilled as we are. How do I know this?
a) We belong in totally different Leagues. b) That makes our skill levels totally different.
So, Why rage at your feeder solo top? Probably, he's a Bronze, and the enemy is Silver or higher...He was lost since the beginning...There is no way to win a game when your lanes lose because of a fixated cause, of a factor that cannot be altered unless the situation is immensely in your favor, and you can spare a lot of ganks to get that lane up and running again.
The solution? Simple: Isolate the Leagues. Reform Promotions.
Let me explain:
a) Isolate the Leagues: From now on, every player plays games ONLY with people from his own league. So Bronze plays with Bronze, Silver with Silver, etc. This ensures a minimum level of expected skill from everyone in the team, as now nobody is randomly there, they are in that pre game lobby because they are players from that League and only that League.
This gives a little certainty, and also lets people grow a conscience about the Elo range they are in, and what is expected of them, this also lets focus educational efforts in each separate league, instead of an enormous, mostly random, Ranked System.
But this also has a problem: It isolates players, and they never get to experience how a better player plays the game. And so here comes my second proposal.
b) Reform Promotions: How? Well, from no on, HERE is were people get to play with players from other leagues, SUPERIOR Leagues. This makes them feel their progress, as they are not anymore paired with players from lower Leagues, and they can learn a lot from people who play better than them, instead of falling into the mistakes and conducts of players from lower Elo brackets.
In short: If Gold plays with Bronze, there is a strong chance of Gold not learning anything from that game, and also playing worse because of Bronze's mistakes, ending in a ragefest which affects both players negatively.
But if Gold plays with Gold and with Platinum, he learns things from Platinum, while having a stable game with his fellow Golds, which promotes an overall better, more peaceful,
