A long needed talk about the Tribunal/Banning system.

Universal Rules

While appreciate the work that is done on this game, and I love playing it, I have to say -

Your banning system is atrocious. In your "Universal Rules" for boards, you say that threats and such are not allowed. Which, of course makes sense. I applaud you for watching these boards as well as you do.

This should apply to actual games too. But the fact that someone gets banned for their client messing up, and someone who tells someone to "off themselves" doesn't?

That's horrible. Absolutely disgusting, actually. It ruins the game that people who do these things consistently do not have consequences.
Some toxicity, yeah, that's a lot different. Telling someone to kill themselves shouldn't be tolerated one bit, and it irks me that this is still a huge problem when Riot preaches to be nice to your team mates. Help us out here, why don't you try to do something about the people playing your game.

We can report, but it's your job to follow up on it.

I'd like to hear your experiences and opinions on this topic.

Well as many have said before, they only care about toxicity in ranked. Fuck the other game modes riot said.

Telling someone to kill themselves shouldn't be tolerated one bit...

It's not. I don't know if Riot will slam the banhammer down on anyone who says something like this even once, but this sort of thing is definitely not okay.

But the fact that someone gets banned for their client messing up...

You have to AFK/disconnect from a lot of matches to get a time ban, although you can get low priority queue much sooner. This is also something that can be detected with essentially 100% accuracy, while verbal abuse is often more of a judgement call.

This is really a different issue. Players who have technical issues that prevent them from playing effectively can ruin the game for everyone else. While I'm sympathetic towards players who are having technical issues -- if you can't play reliably, then you shouldn't queue with random players until you resolve your issues. Play customs -- or at least queue up with a full team of understanding friends so you're not making your teammates lose.

Edit:

I'll add that if you are in a game with someone who you think needs some extra special attention from Riot, you can file a Support ticket here and give them any information you have: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/requests/new

Thinking about my last game, I had a support who was constantly flaming our adc because he was probably lagging to the point where the game was almost unplayable for him. All of our team accepted the free loss, but tried to do our best, but this Leona just kept wishing cancer on Lucian's family. Every 5 or 10 minutes. And I realised, he was probably on chat restriction, so the reports do work, he just needs a bit more to get banned from ranked and lose his ability to chat. For the less extreme cases, I guess they don't really want to make the automated system be more strict than it now is because of the shitstorm it's causing even now. Lyte said recently that the tribunal voting should be ready this year, which means more accurate representation of what the community accepts and what they consider punishable, so maybe more people would get punished.

Telling someone they should kill him/herself is absolutely against the rules and will get that person banned if it happens enough. I do think Riot needs to implement a system whereby players can have some indication of their reports having an effect (e.g. alerting the player when someone he/she reported is banned), however, which is why I voted for Not sure on your poll.

The main point of this post was to say that saying certain things should result in an instant ban, just like racism, sexism or homophobia. None of that is okay, and neither is telling someone to kill themselves for doing something wrong in a game.

The current system is an automatic system that checks for keywords and issues penalties based on these. Or something like that. At the same time, if you report too often, and some of those reports are deemed false, your report values will go down and your reports eventually get ignored. Yet it's a computer that is reviewing reports. So why can't the computer just continue reviewing these reports for the keywords? It doesn't put any more strain on the system. Better yet, just have the computer check all games for any keywords that are prohibited, and issue bans accordingly. And, for the love of god, publish a list of the prohibited words and letter combos.

RE: my last sentence, If you try to use the letters "ass" in a team name, you will not be allowed. Words that contain ass: Brass, Lass, Classy, Mass, Grass, Assert, Assist, Bassist, Seabass, Pass, and so so many more. None of these are allowed in team names. Problem? Yes. This is proof your computers are not suitable to deal out punishments. They should not even be allowed to ASSIST in the punishments.

It was either my last game or the one before it where I ended up on a team with a 3 man pre made who admitted they were going to troll and then after feeding sat in all chat claiming that I was being toxic and to report me. They then finally said " we can't take this abuse anymore. Please report him. "

and all three of them quit. .... I've also been chat restricted without ever breaking the summoners code.

Simply chatting in this game can get you banned. It doesn't matter.

Yeah, riot actually does punish players for that type of language. It's actually the only thing they punish. Stop fishing for upvotes.

So you want a single report to be sufficient to get a person banned?

...................... okay.

EL HAMSTERO7/17/2015, 2:59:00 PM1 votes

if everyone I reported got banned id have to play vs bots. because there would be no one left :(

AJStarhiker7/17/2015, 3:12:56 PM1 votes

Unless someone goes to the absolute extreme side of abuse, the current system goes to chat restrictions before bans. So, just because you see someone continue playing after being reported, doesn't mean they aren't getting punished.
