Why can't I play support with the summoners I want?

Almost every game I play I have someone saying "support" take exhaust please, take ignite please, take tele so we can pressure... why can't I just take whatever spell I feel comfortable with. Supports don't sit there and tell others to ditch ignite, don't make me get rid of heal.

To the OP and The AFK Farmer, You both ruin games and should stick to what is consistently better. Especially if you're doing this in ranked. Top > TP, Mid > Ignite/Heal/Barrier, Jungle > Smite, ADC > Heal, Support > Exhaust/Ignite. All of them should also be running flash, except a few exceptional picks.

Actually, they do. Specifically for me bringing teleport as an ADC. Almost every time the support tells me to bring a different summoner's spell, but you know what? Not their decision. Advice is noted, but it's my spell.

I have a friend that has never used flash, he's gold II and get's bitched at almost every single game. Do what you want, just have a thick skin.

Because you are supporting...

When I support, I always take what my ADC wants me to take. Playing in a way that makes my ADC comfortable, makes them preform better and the whole objective of a support is to help your team in every way possible. Now if they're telling me to bring something silly, then sure, I'll take whatever I want. But if my adc would rather I take ignite instead of exhaust or heal, I'll bring it because that'll help my adc play the way they want to play, and I'll adapt to it.

But that's just how I play the role, it works for me, whatever works (and is fun) for you is usually the best way to play any role.

Take the skill that you genuinely feel will be the most useful for fighting the enemy team's comp.

Once in a blue moon heal will be a good option, but the vast majority of the time exhaust/ignite will just FACTUALLY provide you better results.

Yes, summoner skills are kinda broken right now, but that doesn't change the truth of this.
