Is Renekton worth getting, or a waste of 4800 IP?

Hey guys,

I'm really hoping to get some feedback from you on whether or not to get Renekton. I know that he has a stupidly strong early game, and a pretty good mid game, but I hear say that he falls off really badly late game. But, researching into that a bit more I found that his drop off isn't that bad, he just isn't the the major lane bully that he is in the beginning of the game, just another one of those big meat shield tanks. But I would really like to know if he really is any good or not? From looking on lolking, I found that he is average in popularity, and has an average win rate. And hell, I played against a Renekton player who did pretty well and beat me like a bad child the whole game. But. I have gotten champions that were classed as good, and that I have seen people do well with in game, and when I got them myself, I did not enjoy them one bit, and wasted a good 5 days of collecting IP for someone I will never use, and I dont want to do that again. I'm not wondering if he's like or (broken as all hell) I'm just wanting to know if he is a good top-lane tank who can hold his own in the late game, and most importantly of all, if he is a fun champion to play.
