I've seen a few posts on this topic. I was wondering if anyone knew the answers to a few of my questions. How did they find my in game tag to send me a friend request? Are they combing the boards and doing it that way or are they just using a generator to send out request to infinite combinations of tags? I've been blocking all the level 1's that have been requesting me. What's the goal of these bots adding you in such numbers? I've had 3 just today, are they all advertising something different or is it just that the creators are assuming that the more accounts they have the higher probability that they'll be accepted and therefor advertise to you?

They're mostly advertising "elo boosting" services. Most of them want your account information to play games for you, you typically don't get your account back. Some of them advertise payment and just carry you from one rank to the next, but after they have your money, they may not fulfill the task.
