So this morning I was playing a game. Simple. However, approaching the late game I was doing fairly poorly. But, to my surprise, our Shaco Jungle started verbally harassing me. Phrases such as 'Go kill yourself' and 'Jump off a cliff' were directed at me.

I just simply feel like this needs to stop. Like right now. There are people actually out there that may have little self-esteem and unfortunately may do such a horrible thing. So please, RIOT do something about this as it is NOT a joke. This is basically telling someone to die for losing a lol match.

AND IF YOU ARE HERE TO TELL US TO GROW SOME BALLS, PLEASE GO AWAY.

First, mute those people immediately.

Second, report them after the game for verbal abuse / harassment. Be sure to fill in the report with a brief explanation for Riot to read, such as "Around 25 minutes he said (verbal abuse quote) in chat to me".

Riot has given us the tools to help ourselves. So many people just flame back in chat, forums, etc, instead of simply following the above two steps. The first one protects you. The second one alerts Riot, and justice will eventually come to those people if they continue their behavior.

Also, if you see someone else getting verbally abused, tell the culprit "You are being verbally abusive. It's not helping. Please stop." then mute them (because they'll probably turn their abuse on you as well) and remember to report them after the game. Zero Tolerance starts in the community. The rest of us need to be doing our part to crack down on these people.

There's a simple solution here. Mute anyone and everyone that is being negative or toxic in any way. Problem solved.

i talked shit to someone and got banned from game chat for 19 games :[

I agree, it's a piss off. But sadly, if you're playing a multiplayer game, especially a pvp game. This kind of thing is gonna come with it. Nothing riot or anybody else can do about it. I wish the punishment for this kind of behavior was more..apparent.

You have opted into this game. This game has given you tools to ignore and report players you deem toxic. This game also doesn't have a gun to your head threatening to pull the trigger unless you continue playing. And all money that you have put into the game is more than likely cosmetic only, so your financial attachment to the game should be a non-factor.

Why are you making a thread about this, with all those things being said? People with thin skin should be prepared to deal with assholes on the internet, it is just part of being here.

I usually send a support ticket to Riot if I meet someone who acts like that. Such people need to be banned ASAP.

Doesn't happen often though. I've only done that twice.

Learn to laugh at them. Just take a step back and look at what they are saying. 9 times out of 10 I end up laughing because they're doing just as bad, or are being useless to the team.

For example, I was getting harassed by a Malzahar of all things for going 1/5/10, I took look at his kda, and the guy was some how going 0/0/0. As a Malzahar, it takes some kind of backwards miracle to do that bad. So I just ended up laughing in his delusional face.

I've noticed the most toxic people tend to be those who play aggressive champs ( Akali Fizz Fiora LeeSin RekSai Yasuo Zed ) and end up doing poorly. I think it just boils down to either a) the match not going the way the person expected, or b) the person is just flat out toxic.

In either case, just mute them. Even if you make a simple mistake that didn't really change the course of the game. If a person's first response to something is a sarcastic remark, or negativity, chances are they aren't going to change. I just tell them they're being muted, then I forget they exist.
