Perfect ascension icon and the community

This ascension icon seems to have brought out the worst in our community. People brag about deny the otherside their icon. The general idea is they're only playing for the icon and if they can't have it, no one can. The problem is, this happens every single game. Not once in my games has either team qualified for the icon. I tried making agreements not to snipe the icon from the other team. Last game we were winning very hard, but had one bad team fight and the other team raced to steal xerath and deny our icon. I begged them to let us have the perfect win but they just laughed at me.

It made me very sad to see people take such joy in being mean to others. Some of us are working very hard to get that icon.

So let me get this straight. This person is complaining because he just wants to have a perfect game handed to him...he doesn't want to earn it. Perfect Ascension game is just that...you've got to play the perfect game. Getting aced while Xereth is up is not a perfect game.

This is what's wrong with today's people...they want things just given to them...they don't want to EARN them!

Your MMR must of been very low if you face rolled hard enough to consider the icon "earned." I've came very close to getting it a few times, but theres a huge element of luck trying to snipe steal xerath for the 6th time vs a good high burst mage. The smart way to play is to never start xerath unless you ace them, but when they're behind they'll rush it every time they get a kill even over taking relics (the real way to win)

I think the problem here is you're trying to snipe it. All available allies should be trying to put as much burst as possible on it whenever the enemy starts it. What have you got to lose by doing that?

This sounds like something I would do... It's not that I'm trying to deny someone the icon, it's just the fact that I think they need to truly earn it. If the team chooses to attack the ascended when there is a chance to steal, and it's stolen, it's largely their fault and they didn't earn it.

I see of it less as denying the enemy of the icon and more making people really earn it. This is kind of the way I feel about Pentakills: I hate respect Pentas, because a real Penta should be earned, and it feels that much more valuable when you do truly earn it.

So if you ask me, the enemy, to essentially gift you the icon, I am going to respectfully say no, because earning it is half the fun. I guess I'm just competitive in that way.

This game mode actually punishes your for playing well (ace the other team? you stay wounded while they come back stronger.) You can play smart, only start xerath if you ace them, but if they're going to lose they'll start rushing xerath every time they get a kill. Good luck sniping xerath away 5 times in a row from high burst champs.

So tell me, how do you earn this icon outside of matchmaking putting a great team against a terrible team? Or just extreme luck in sniping xerath.

This mode punishes you for not performing effective strategies. You shouldn't start Xerath when you're all low: instead, go for the relics which will probably give you the better net gain. If you start Xerath while you are low and the other team punishes you for that mistake, you don't really have anybody but yourself to blame. If they start it, you always always go for it, because even if you don't get it, its not a huge punishment (worst case you die, best case you actually steal the Ascendent and become invulnerable, middle road you pick up a kill or two in exchange).

Its just like any game on SR or learning to play any champion; you play smart and work to improve. It doesn't always work out, but when it does, its obvious you've earned it.

The game I earned it in, if I remember correctly, was pretty close on score. We didn't win by a landslide or anything, and there were plenty of kills on both teams. In the end though, my team just scored points smarter and better.

You sure they aren't just trying to win, as is the purpose of the game? Or maybe they still need more wins for the other icons? It seems like you just have a persecution complex.

Not gloating, aiming to help some. When I got my icon I wasn't trying to get it. I was enjoying the game playing it, and it just so happened we had achieved it. Keep trying, but if you try and make agreements, the enemy team might deliberately try and screw you over, so I say just go for it.

I gave that mode 10 games. Not a single game more. Terrible mode, waste of my time. It was even worse than playing URF on the third day of its release. Just snowball champs every game. Disgusting.
