Dawngate, you will be missed.

Dawngate is going to shut down.

Dawngate certainly wasn't perfect, but of the MOBAs I'd say Dawngate was most committed to its story. It felt *just *different enough to be a different game, but the things it did were interesting and enjoyable.

I just wish it had more time.

I just wish it had more time.

They sold their soul to EA.

EA wants to see 50 million players and they want them yesterday, otherwise off to the soup kitchen you go.

Shinji10TH11/5/2014, 12:07:06 AM15 votes

It was a MOBA that had the clear objective of being a truly competitive game, but without disregarding the lore and community aspects, which made it, IMO, the only real MOBA that was still in development.

We hope that Riot will pick those passionate developers and not let them rot in EA's prisons.

Audiomancy11/5/2014, 12:21:18 AM9 votes

Shame. I liked that game too. I'll never forget you, Zalgus <3

Damn, that sucks. It was pretty fun. Viyana<3

EA fucks up again, called it

EA continues to be the worst gaming company I have ever seen... moving on.

But in all seriousness, I loved Dawngate. Vex and all of the characters it had were amazing and I loved the amazing gameplay. It wasn't even out of beta yet, I mean that is insane. I hope this is an April Fool's joke and it will continue after the 90 days are up, but this is the stupidest thing EA has done that I have seen so far.

themaddscientist11/4/2014, 11:23:20 PM6 votes

I think the worst part is that it isn't the first time that some of these guys have been on the bad end of a game shutting down. If I recall correctly, some of the devs were involved with Darkspore, a decent attempt at a Diablo-style game that had a couple of neat ideas, namely that of swapping characters out to get different spells and abilities as well as borrowing from the creature creation of Spore to create your own heroes. However, it had crippling always-online DRM before Diablo III tried to pull that nonsense, was buggy as hell because of that, and it was eventually pulled from Steam entirely due to those issues and game-crippling bugs due to bad maintenance of the servers. The servers may still be up and you might be able to find it on Origin (no idea if that's the case, though), but you can't buy it at most retailers.

So, yeah, your track record isn't looking so good for online titles, EA. At least your main franchises like Sim City and Battlefield aren't having problems with server nonsense. OH, WAIT!

That's just freaking sad... those guys at Waystone Games, having such inovative ideas and great minds for lore and story-telling will be relocated to work on boring EA games like FIFA and Battlefield... That's just depressing... Here's a link to the petition, though I don't think it will save them, it is the thought that matters: https://www.change.org/p/electronic-arts-please-continue-development-of-dawngate

Damn'it EA, you always screw it up... item 3151

Psykova11/5/2014, 1:05:53 AM5 votes

So sad, it was an interesting game and while I didn't really play it, its music was some of the best I've ever heard in a game.

It was shut down a week after its first tournament, immediately after the end of its seasonal event and 15 hours after the latest patch was deployed. People have been calling EA's support and none of them even heard anything about the shutdown, despite us being promised that monetary refunds were already set up.

On top of it all, the latest update of Chronicles was deployed as if nothing is going on.

That should give everyone a good hint for how random and senseless this shutdown is.

Clumsy Bobble11/5/2014, 3:25:08 AM4 votes

Man. That's kind of upsetting. I really enjoyed playing as Zalgus. It was so much fun. I stopped playing it when they increased the size of the map/made massive changes though. They removed Zalgus' knockup and it pissed me off.

Dawngate will be missed.

junglerboy1611/4/2014, 11:59:01 PM4 votes

Wow. Just, wow. I never actually got around to playing it but it looked like it was so unique. Well, I guess EA screwed up again.

The Red Warden11/5/2014, 12:50:12 AM4 votes

This is what happens when you sign into EA. You either make the most generic, crowd-pleasing experience out there and shape it a giant money grub, or you get cancelled for actually doing something different when it doesn't immediately sell 20 million copies

Steel Inquisitor11/5/2014, 6:20:32 AM4 votes

EA shut down another game? What a shocker, EA sucks.

Arbitron11/5/2014, 5:38:57 AM4 votes

What? Isn't the game still in beta? I haven't heard anything good or bad about it in like 6 months and all of a sudden it's getting the can? What is EA thinking? I mean hell, at least give it a few adverts in a few places and then put a final patch to release it then see where it goes, how much more money is it going to take to do that? Just weird... Also, though while it will be several several years before anything like this happens to bigger games like LoL and Dota 2, it will happen eventually, and the problem will come when so many people have put so much money into the game and will no longer be able to play it.

Necron XCIX11/4/2014, 11:05:58 PM3 votes

I remember my friends telling me that this game was gonna last. I always responded by saying that EA was gonna ruin it somehow. This isn't exactly what I had in mind, but I guess I was right in the long run.

In all seriousness though, This is very unfortunate. While I stopped playing the game and went back to LoL, I enjoyed my time spent in it and I still read the webcomic they put out, because it's awesome.

It makes me wonder though: according to an article I read, Waystone is gonna fully refund every player who spent money on the game. If LoL were to close down too, are we gonna get refunds too? I'm assuming not because Dawngate was in beta, so it would make sense for them to do that, but still. It makes me curious

Cindikle11/5/2014, 6:47:03 AM2 votes

I just hope Riot doesn't feel to shy about taking some ideas from them. IMO Dawngate had a better balance and itemization. Although they had fewer champions to balance around. So it's not the best way to compare them.

Ink Rose11/4/2014, 8:46:55 PM2 votes

What what?!?! No! I really liked that game!

Baron Perenolde11/5/2014, 5:03:42 AM2 votes

So no more Zeri? :(

Evil Jester11/5/2014, 6:32:44 AM2 votes

I remember telling people this game wouldn't last on facebook and I had 20 or so hardcore dawngate players shut me down telling me that I was special lol. Im a bit surprised that it didn't last very long to be honest. not even a year old If I am correct

Solumindra11/5/2014, 3:05:56 PM2 votes

I'm sad to see it go, at least I could play with good ping on East Coast. Something Rito still won't do.

Shanghaied Jack11/6/2014, 2:49:01 AM1 votes

This is a shame, :/ I was introduced to the game today, it looked really nice. I loved the map, the champs (or Shapers rather) and it looked like it would make a good impact on the Moba community. It's a shame to hear EA pulled the plug. :/

Surakai11/5/2014, 12:55:59 AM1 votes

the only problem I had with that game was

  1. death timers skyrocketed too soon
  2. annoying stun thing from nexus
  3. ability to stall games for 40+ minutes even if you are getting wrecked beyond belief

fairly easy fixes I'm sure

Circuit Bear11/4/2014, 10:17:03 PM1 votes

It really is a shame with the feel and style they were going and the requirement for almost all damage loaded on skill shots, but oh well. The community never really took off

GoodHotFreshFly11/5/2014, 12:42:58 AM1 votes

I got that game and I didn't like it unfortunately :(. I just though that the hunter/gladiator/predator/ tactitian thing was just so weird.....

But now I feel really sad :(

TakoBell11/5/2014, 9:54:09 AM1 votes

I loved the items, they felt very unique and there were tons of options. IT WAS STILL IN BETA.

Dawngate had so much potential.

Man f*ck EA, I don't even know what else to say.

Jryiah11/5/2014, 1:06:13 PM1 votes

I never found enough time to give it a chance but it seemed like it had a lot of interesting aspects.

Narasimha11/5/2014, 1:16:51 PM1 votes

For the record, it wasn't the fact that the game didn't have a lot of players that killed it. It was the fact that it didn't have a lot of NEW players. The growth rate was super super low. Basically there was no advertising, either public or personal. And if not enough 'investors' show up, then its not really a good 'investment'.

T1gerBl00d2711/5/2014, 1:20:43 PM1 votes

Its sad, but after almost four years of development and still not out of BETA with the Moba market getting saturated.......it makes sense really.

Rhyto11/4/2014, 11:24:14 PM1 votes

Whoa, that was short-lived.

DriednWashedUp11/5/2014, 3:16:30 PM1 votes

i wish i have more time with it but luckily i have strife. I feel bad for some of our league personas who left to go work for waystone

hartar11/5/2014, 3:32:31 PM1 votes

It is sad for a moba to die on the beta, but, what do you expect from EA? Do to a game that really work from day one or keep the fun one alive?

Felvyne11/5/2014, 4:02:55 PM1 votes

Awwww, that's sad, I really enjoyed the mechanics of Dawngate (the gold fountains and the items specially), but with my horrible laptop and being unable of buying a champion after playing some games (they were too expensive >>) I had to stop.

I hoped that the game was polished so I could play more often, but now... you will be missed, Dawngate

SpaceToad11/5/2014, 9:00:19 PM1 votes

Sad, I thought DG really pushed MOBAs into the future and the champ design was great. It will be missed!

AnemoneMeer11/5/2014, 1:37:28 AM1 votes

Just because Dawngate as a game is shutting down doesn't mean all of it has to be gone for good.

Who knows, maybe some of its champion and ability mechanic ideas will at least be ported over to League and other games. We can only hope at least.

YveItaI11/5/2014, 9:39:54 PM1 votes

I'm actually mad about this, and to find out that a great game i liked is going to die, on my birthday. :/

TAC Rango11/6/2014, 12:04:00 AM1 votes

I've only played it once. I hope for the best those who are transferring over to LoL.summoner 4
