I'm a OTP for a reason...
Not because Tahm Kench is strong currently. He's not, and he hasn't been for a number of patches. Not because I think he's the secret to me getting gold. If that's what I was after, I'd be OTPing something like Malphite or Blitzcrank. AKA, champions with abilities so impactful they can turn the tide of any match with the press of a single button.
I'm a Tahm Kench one-trick because:
- He's my favorite champion. I love everything about him from his kit to his character.
- I never tire of playing him. I've played over 450 matches with him and still have fun every match.
- I've always been a OTP sorta player. Back on my first account, I was practically a Garen OTP. He's still my most-played champ overall with 610 total matches.
- I want to know my champ so intimately that there's no situation where I can't find a way to win. With Garen, I got my jollies from stomping Teemos. It was honestly my best match-up statistically, despite being one of his "counters." I'd also get bullied and countered hard in lane, then still find a way to claw my way back into the match and sometimes still carry. I can think of nothing more satisfying than stuff like that.
- It's gonna take some time, but I want to be known for my Tahm Kench play. I want to be on this list (http://championmasterylookup-derpthemeus.rhcloud.com/highscores?champion=223), as well as high up in rank on Lolskill. I want to be who people think of when they think of Tahm Kench players, which should be a somewhat easier goal considering hardly anybody plays him, let alone one-tricks him.
So please, don't tell me I should play someone else to climb. Don't mock me for my summoner name when I have an off match (we ALL have one here and there) or for my TK ranked stats. This isn't going to be an overnight process. Even at 450+ matches, with an overall (normals + ranked on both accounts) 56.02% winrate and 4.08 KDA top lane (50.56% and 3.44 support), I can still see plenty of room to grow and I look forward to that growth.
In short, if someone commits themselves fully to becoming a OTP, especially if it's to the point they pay to change their summoner name, don't belittle them and try to tell them what to do. I once saw a Thresh OTP with a summoner name something like "I Thresh Only" and hundreds of thousands of mastery points on Thresh in one of my matches and, to be honest, I would never have guessed any of that based on his play. But you didn't see me saying "hey, maybe try OTPing another champ. Clearly Thresh isn't working out for you." I just found it cool to see someone as committed as myself, and I would've tried to give him some pointers and/or encouragement if he hadn't left almost immediately after the match. Is that so hard?
