Not sure if I should post this in Gameplay or not it's not about gameplay more is it a question...

Are you supposed to hook then flay? or flay then hook?

Do you have any suggestions to someone who is going to be getting him soon? May look up some thresh guides.

Either one. If you are facing a person farther away from you, hook then flay when they are closer. Otherwise in melee range, flay then hook.

It is all situational. It is easier to land a hook after you have flayed the target but doing it that way is mana intensive. The other way of hook then flay is a higher probability of being missed but if you miss the hook having flay still up can be enough to coax the enemy not to counter engage you. I've had it happen where I flay then hook the enemy Jinx and toss lantern to my Ashe ADC only to have the enemy Alistar headbutt my Ashe away and knock me up and beat me down. If I still had flay I would have been able to interrupt his headbutt.
