"League Of legends is free" they said (League Logic)

When i first started playing this game a year back i did not know what RP (Riot Points) was or how to obtain it (I still wish i didn't) until i learned you can get RP with Real money (as opposed to fake money? O_o) and with RP you can buy anything in the store (except runes) but skins are exclusive to RP only, Now if your every League gamer ever (which you are) then you probably uttered these same words i did "i'm never going to spend money on this game let alone for a skin" or something like that right? until you actually see people in game with it and your amazed like :O look at those particles! i want one! Now here you are you just bought your first skin, its awesome and worth every penny but now you want another and another and another...until you decide that its enough you wasted too much money then BOOM! riot releases Mystery gifts so not only can you be surprised by the skins you get but now you can get them for cheaper! then BOOM they release bundles of skins for half off, BOOM Ultimate skins, BOOM RP bundles BOOM Captain Volibear ( DO YOU SEE THAT SWAG? MY GOD) BOOM BOOM BOOM...sigh

Long story short i now own 85 skins, yes i said 85 i have no self control, now you may ask me is every skin worth it? and i shall answer with this question "Is scuba gragas worth it?" i mean seriously look at that its a big dude in latex cmon rito no one wants to see that kinky stuff.

Whats your Story?

It's the business model.

You can play for free. Realistically, your enjoyment isn't even really affected by not paying.

You also can choose to pay to play. You can either pay for an advantage (use the rp on champions to expand your roster) or for aesthetics with a skin.

Most free players look at it like this: Why pay for a champion I can earn for free? Why pay for a skin that doesn't help me in any way?

After a while, most players will want a skin or several. It's a mix of enjoying the game so much that you are no longer opposed to paying for no advantage and just want to support riot, and also wanting something more unique or maybe because everyone else has a skin and you feel cheap.

Essentially you play for free as long as you want, and when you hit your peak interest you start paying. The model only works in Games that draw a large time commitment from their players I think - Riot does this brilliantly.

And as a note, I've not spent anything yet (since starting April 2014) although for the last month or so I've been thinking about buying rp to support the game since I enjoy it - I just don't know what skins I want :p. Honestly though, if there were a way to spend money to get something unique and an advantage, Riot would have my money already. Like if there were a program where you pay a monthly fee and get free use of extra champions in normals (eg triple the free rotation) and get a skin from your most played champion each month, I would probably have signed up.

i started playing this game with the expectation that i would spend a fair amount of money. i like to support the developers for the games i play

i didnt expect i would spend so much though. recently i checked my statements and calculated how much and... well its time to take a break lol.
