Why do people pick unconventional supports

This didn't happen to me, but as an adc main it has. I've had my share of for example lets say - Urgot Support - Now the new draft system works to help you get your role, even with queue times being what they are. So knowing this why do people go unconventional supports. It's not a rant or rage or anything just a topic I thought about that has affected me, and that I find peculiar. Tl:Dr | Why do people go wierd supports when they can go normal lane route?

Same reason people play an unusual champ in a role. It is much easier to play with something like an Urgot support than to know what to do against one.

The goal is generally to sacrifice ADC peel for getting 2 fed people at the end of laning phase.

Also support is the most flexible role because it isn't actually very champion dependent, just think about how 80% of supports are viable right now. It is because it is less dependent on champ and more on knowing how to play in the bot lane, a skill most lack.

Personally I play a lot of random supports. I often even play first time champions as supports. It really doesn't matter what I am playing, I generally have a very high winrate doing that because my bot lane game knowledge is very high. The enemy's lack of knowing what to do almost always makes up for the fact that I don't know how to play AP Vayne.

So if you know what you are doing it can be a VERY effective strategy.

its fun to try something different, and its easier to pull off an off meta support than any other lane

most of the regular supports are boring as hell to play. maining supp is also boring as hell

Because they don't want to play supports. Sad truth is that most of the interesting mechanics aren't given to supports. I mean look at Taric: One skill shot, a targeted shield and two AOE things. Not the most fun.

boredom

support as a role is boring as shit, not a big surprise that they would want to mix it up occasionally.

playing support is a chore, no one really wants to do it 90% of the time (hence the que times) support in league is an utterly thankless job, you either end up playing with a shitty ADC who blames you for their mistakes, or you win the game for your team and no one bother to honor you after a 1/1/32

Contradiction much?

Some times its too much fun. Me and a friend used to take Panth/Darius bot all the time. People were so salty.

Another super fun one that I will always love is when we went Khazix/Rengar. Lets just say... it romple stomped the shit out of them.

  1. 'Coz in my group of friends, im the only one that plays support, and it sucks the fact that I want to play mid and none of them knows the support rol. n__n

  2. 'Coz if im not supporting, random supports wont buy vision and we will lost the game. (Sorry, Im a vision-addict).

  3. 'Coz I want more ranged-support and not the boring tankish ones. I'm always playing the same ones over and over again and I get bored. If I change lanes, queue times will get horrible true story

  4. 'Coz I want to chill-to-win and the only rol left is support. :)
