At what elo range do you qualify to be a coach.
Just wanted everyone's opinions. Do you feel you qualify to teach those in elo's below you, or your required to reach top tier elo.

At none. A silver who is a good teacher is a better coach than a challenger who sucks at, teaching.
Teaching of requires some knowledge, of course, and a challenger know more about the game than a silver, but teaching League of Legends is not about saying « do this, this, then this and hten GG WP. », League is a game which is mainly about decision making, which means that teaching is equivalent to teaching one how to think. This ability and one's ELO are not connected to each other.
Of course, you still required basic knowledge about the game to teach it, and the more knowledge the better, but this is only a bonus.
just better then the one you are coaching
You say something useful: good. You say something useless: bad.
I learned from my silver friend. Now I play with him often, and he's gold. I believe he'll plat next season.
The most important parts of this game, in my opinion, are the basics. Why ward? How to CS? Once you learn that, you will get better on your own.
I don't particularly know what point that may be, but I have coached people and I currently reside in platinum 1 with a frozen elo which I feel is sufficient. Another bonus is that I'm a top lane Darius OTP and I coach people who want to play top, especially darius main wannabes. I don't coach things like mid or adc (I can teach support as a former support main, but it's not really my absolute specialty so I'd only teach someone like a very low elo person who needs help with the basics and maybe some intermediate skills).

Theoretically, a bronze could be a great coach. Practically, you need to be at least master with a talent at l teaching/coaching.
If there's value in what you have to say to someone that they otherwise might not know then any elo is realistically acceptable. Think about LCS coaches, they're not all pros and better than their players, yet they still facilitate a growing and thriving environment for their players to learn and improve.
You could have tons of game knowledge and yet be awful mechanically in game, but still have useful info for players higher than you.
Imo it is easier to coach than to play. Having flat knowledge is easier than using it in current situation still being focused on the game. Few divisions above or even equal division should be completly enough to help team get better and higher in ledder I think.
