Many savvy LoL players. such as myself, have long ago realized that ranked is a scam and chosen to end the cycle, but then accidentally played rank due to Riot's crappy, buggy mockery of a user interface.

Do you not read the announcements? Or look at your profile page? Or just understand common sense; start of the season, placements...

I literally opened the Launcher and it gave me a notice that the seasons has just begun, and it isn't like placements came out from nowhere.

Maybe you should read the notices, instead.
