Hextech Crafting, what do you get?

Hello there, I was hoping someone who is in a similar position to myself but has more experience with the crafting system could answer me a question.

So I have unlocked every champion in the game already and I was excited about the hextech crafting system since it gave me something to work toward with gameplay that I haven't had in a while. My question is, if you have every champion unlocked, does the system still give you champion shards even though you can never do anything with them? Kind of like how ip just kinda builds up with nothing to spend it on except new champion releases. Or because you have them all unlocked does the system only unlock skin shards for you?

Anybody with some knowledge on the subject is greatly appreciated and thank you for your time!
