You likely encountered MMR bots. They queue with weird preferences in order to meet eachother and then they feed hard to get higher MMR.

They only do it to increase the chances of meeting eachother. If they hadn't met eachother they would've left. They can tell if they are joining the same battle because the queue timer pops up for all of them at the same time.
