When I see posts that say "most people hate such and such, just look at all these posts with all these upvotes!" I have to kind of laugh because apparently 200-1000 up votes is a "majority" of the entire population of league.
Reviews aren't written by happy customers.
If the boards manages to agree on something enough that it has 1k+ upvotes, then it might be a decent indication that the majority might like it as well.
I have seen maybe like 5 or 6 threads in my lifetime on the league boards (since early season 3, which isn't that long I guess) with over 1k votes.
also lague has a couple hunred thousand players, the record for most upvotes is 1.6k
If the forums are not a majority, and it's members of that population who believe this, then a majority of the minority believes it to be true. And a majority of the minority is still a minority. So... meh.
