Was a good set of games.
As the casters somewhat mentioned,
Huni didn't adapt to the tank top lane meta shift. He played Lucian, Gangplank, and Graves.
While the Lucian can be thrown as a cocky, arrogant, cheese pick so that game can be somewhat thrown away despite it being their best display.
Huni had shown he could play Ekko top lane BEFORE the changes as an AP threat, with it being one of the top three tank picks internationally on this patch, it was flabbergasting that it was neither banned nor picked in any of the three games.
Additionally, he didn't pick a tank in any of the games. He tried to play strong carry top laners, and put Reignover onto tank junglers. The setup we've been seeing far more successful in the recent patch was a carry style jungler with a tank top laner. Sven showed he could play carry junglers with Graves, Nidalee, and Lee Sin, while Reignover showed poorly playing full tank junglers in Gragas and Reksai.
Additionally, they identified that Adrian has a very limited and poor champion pool with his Soraka one trick making him largely irrelevant in the game.
While Wildturtle and Pobelter each showed up in all of the matches, they were never the primary carries of IMT, just very solid capable individuals who worked well with minimal help. With actual lane opponents of value in Doublelift and Bjergsen, they didn't accrue huge natural advantages to pull Huni out of a rut.
The only time a huge advantage occurred was when Pobelter was gifted an easy roam double kill onto TSM's duo lane for... I'll be blunt, sheer stupidity in communication. However, he was unable to pull any lane advantage with this, and in the end was actually killed repeatedly by Bjergsen despite having the lane counterpick of Urgot vs Zed and up a sizable lead. Why? Because Sven kicked Reignover's teeth in so hard that game it looked like he was Bronze.
Immortals looked like they spent the entire time between end of season and playoffs, doing nothing, aside from Lucian top we saw nothing new from the team and we saw a ton of their mistakes that would work only because of their huge gold leads occur, such as that horrible 4v5 jungle fight that Reignover started, or Huni's 1v4 Graves counterattack, from the split. And finally, a team actually consistently capitalized on it.

A modern take on the term "steam rolling" - me likey! Poor nexus! ...Or was it a Lexus?

^ Here we have the support and her ADC, coming through.
Honestly it was only a matter of time. IMT is made up of 2 players being (huni and reignover). You shut them down and their chances of winning decrease dramatically. CLG did it when they ganked huni early so zion could safely duel and split, TSM did it with Sven leaving reignover in the dust (not to mention huni not playing tanks in a toplane tank meta, lucian top lol) If it wasn't another NA team to do it, Korea would. I don't know how Pob could be shocked or whatever word he used in his post game interview. It's just that the majority of NA teams aren't good enough to punish IMTs weaknesses properly.
All the more for reasons why Zed deserves more nerfs. Game 2 as 7/0 against a counterpicked Urgot. Like come on Riot.....
Best thing was Imaqtpie's twitter "tfw enemy team flanks with maokai tp and ur team flanks with lucian", loled hard.
Indeed, TSM totally surprised the heck out of IMT and punished the cheesy picks. A refreshing couple of games to watch after the otherwise disappointing season for TSM.
The only thing I regret is that TSM fans won't be able to shut up about it for the next month or so.

feel bad for them since reignover stated pre-game that he wouldn't feel bad being defeated if they were legitimately out played but imt threw the first game with lucian troll top. also why would they pick graves and jhin in game 3 who have limited damage (because of ammo system) against a ultra tank like mao kai. what they needed was sustained dps instead of 2-4shots burst damage! what a disappointment.
I was watching this game yesterday but didn't get to see the final standings because work. The 3 Marksman comp is strong, especially when you're ahead, but I can't believe that pro's are actually using this comp considering the current tank meta. Granted IMT were up in kills, xp and gold for a majority of the match, but as soon as Maokai got tanky w/Braum it was GG. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.
It's moreso IMT running over themselves and handing TSM the free wins on a silver platter.
tbh I fully thought IMT was gonna do better. but when they had their first defeat to CLG you could tell that IMT actually isn't that good, they are just well communicated. Huni was their best player, so as long as you lock him down the rest are just averages (in terms of LCS that is, clearly they are all better than me)
Ppl still watch other ppl play this joke?
Kids got dicked on
That's what IMT deserves for making such a cancerous pick with
toplane
I think IMT got a little cocky because of how the split went. So when TSM started showing up they did not know what to do. Can't remember who said it but IMT makes simple mistakes but the teams they fought in the split did not capitalize on that so IMT never learned
While it was a sweep, there were some games i was worried about, when Polbelter picked Urgod, I was thinking back to when Keane stomped Bjerg with Urgot a split or 2 ago. IT really shows how much better Bjerg is when he can pick Zed and do so well vs Polbelter's Urgot.
The game or the tank? xD
