Repeated Shaco ganks have taught me one thing, if there is an enemy with an invisible mechanic, buy item 2043 item 3364 or whatever gives you vision on invisible enemies. It will save your life.

I used to read manga, these days it's just too time consuming to fit into my schedule.

LOL you and me both xD

not gonna lie Tokyo Ghoul is like SAO in that you will love everyone but the main character... LIterally main character is this "Almighty can-never-be-wrong bullshit" that subjugates the female protagonist and does that "let's just push this character to the side and make way for our lord and savior Kaneki". School Days actually does a good job of FUCKING PUNISHING THIS BEHAVIOR with it's ending (which I will not spoil for you <3). But hey another mans trash I guess.

Ultraboomer1 votes

but.. but.... I like Kirito's character.

aítch1 votes

I want you to think back to almost every action he did where he made a mistake. Now when was he punished?

Ultraboomer1 votes

when he challenged heathcliff his punishment was joining a guild, and shortly after when he agreed to go on the training thing with the guy who wanted him dead (which he knew) he was punished severely for that. and in later books/episodes you learn he is punished for everyone he killed or couldn't save by his own mind and the guilt he feels.

I also forgot to mention the whole story with the midnight black cats. he messed up and got 6 or 7 people killed, then went to fight the Christmas boss practically intending to die, but much like Olaf's attempts he beat the thing and was hit hard again by the item description on the drop. (I would like to say that since he gives it to Klein I kinda wonder if Klein was carrying it during the final boss battle.)

aítch1 votes

YOU CAN'T SAY THAT'S MESSING UP MAN! Hiding your level doesn't mean shit. He is always praised! ALWAYS! He didn't lose in joining the guild the leader fucking cheated! Kirito is always seen as this women attracting asshole who is somehow SOOOO much better than anyone else in what seems to be a VERY easy MMO. Like WHY is he so powerful? There is no explanation except for that it was for plot convenience. And that is why I HATE SAO. You can't have a story that goes on and on because of plot convenience. OH yeah and turning Asuna into some fetish in the last 12 episodes of season 1 was GREEEAT! Subjugate the one decent human being (Cuz Yui was and AI) and make sure she doesn't do anything anymore! SHE HAS EVEN BEEN SHOWN TO BE BETTER THAN KIRITO YET THEY PUSH HER ASIDE CUZ YAY KIRITO LOOK GIVE US MONEY HAHAHA GODDDAMIT! I mean this MMO is REALLLY EASY if about 60% of the players he has met haven't even played one yet are still leveling up decently.... Think about that what if you put someone into WoW without ANY KNOWLEDGE about what it is and someone see that person survive and never die... it doesn't happen. The whole setup of this show is plot convenient and stupid. It had so much potential and chose to create a boring, desensitized, sexist show that I honestly have grow to hate. Not gonna lie I used to like this show(which is why I have watched it all) but now I-i just can't.

The concepts of an MMO aren't that different from those of a normal game, especially when it's 98% PVE, and most of the people he met that hadn't played MMOs were still gamers. I's also worth noting that of the 10,000 people who went into the game, quite a large number didn't leave. Hiding his level was a mistake because he cad become emotionally attached to the group and if he hadn't hid his level they would not have died because they would have listened to the warning. Yes, Heathcliff cheated to win. However, the mistake was accepting the challenge in the first place. Heathcliff was the leader of the strongest guild in the game and the holder of the unique skill given to the strongest player which gave him almost perfect offensive and defensive potential in the first place. His punishment for that arrogance was joining the guild, which is something he had been doing everything he could to avoid ever doing again, and if you don't want to say going on the training thing was a mistake then that punishment can again be punishing him for the arrogance of accepting Heathcliff's challenge without a second thought. As far as I can tell, every girl he attracts he has saved the life of(except his cousin). That's not a good reason to use that plot device, but it is an interesting coincidence. In Asuna's case I'm not referring to in the ALO arc, but early in sao in a part that wasn't covered in the anime. In the ALO arc, asuna being trapped was a major plot point that not only gave the series a way to continue, but also allowed the author to showcase the personality of the antagonist and give the reader a reason to hate him. For why he is so good at the MMO you can attribute that to 2 points. 1) his brain had the fastest reaction time to the game of everyone playing. 2) he pushed himself extraordinarily hard to level up without anyone's help, therefore having some of the highest combat stats by the end of the game.

aítch1 votes

You support rape that is nice... Reaction time doesn't mean shit there is no reason for him to even HAVE THAT! He didn't push himself at all comparatively to anyone. HE BREEZED through everything easily because surprisingly learning combos in an MMO YOU ARE FORCED TO PLAY WITH NO BREAKS is somehow REALLY EASY for him. Because no one else could practice the whole time either pft NAW that isn't possible goddamit I really really hate SAO like to death. Even the creator hates SAO but he will beat his dead horse until it stops spitting out money. If you like it fine but you can't justify rape was a good way to move the story along at all that is just... that's fucked up.

Ultraboomer1 votes

I don't see how your first comment makes sense with what I said. Until that one bit at the end the worst that happened was he touched her arm. What I said was her being **trapped **was a way to move the story along, and her treatment was a reason to make you hate the person. And I will agree that the bit at the end was unnecessary. Reaction time means a lot, because your ability to control your character would effectively be 2(Ping+reaction) so a lower reaction time would make a lot of difference. He did push himself a lot harder than most people. Maybe not in comparison to the other frontline solo players, but the population of them compared to people who played in parties or guild was minuscule, and solo players naturally had to push themselves harder to fight the same group of enemies without being killed. The game also wasn't just about using sword skills. Using a sword skill at the wrong time could get you killed because of the short self-stun that's applied directly after the skill ends, so you had to be capable of fighting with your weapon on your own, too.

If Asuna, a 15 year-old noob to say the least, can "instinctively" learn it on the spot the mechanics of SAO are easy. If you can somehow counter why Asuna is so much better (I swear if you use that determination bullshit) than EVERY OTHER PLAYER then yeah you have a point. And if trapping another person against their will inside a cage for months while in real life he kept her asleep isn't borderline rape then idk what is. IT WAS UNNECESSARY TO TURN HER INTO THAT! They COULD'VE (imo) killed off Asuna which would finally make Kirito realize he should've been there more and actually been a TEAM PLAYER instead of being a douchey "solo player" and the commander could let him go and then the next 12 episodes could be him in acting revenge and him LEADING EVERYONE LIKE A DECENT HUMAN BEING! I mean that would make for a GREAT twist because everyone cared for Asuna because her character is amazing and killing her off and changing Kirito into a leader would've made his character design believable and having revenge as a motive is a hellovalot better than his "I have got to get out of here" motive. The biggest problem with the first arc is that Kirito is seen as perfect when with that power and strength he could've HELPED A LOT OF PEOPLE instead of being a dick and just derp derp I care about NPCs not actual people yay LOGIC. Another big problem is that the first Arc is BORING! The characters aside from like 3 are really plain and copy-pasted with little to no backstory (like seriously Liz what the fuck was that scene with that picture of her supposed dead friends was that mentioned in the Manga more like fuck) and even if they are given anything close to a story they are pushed aside to make room for Kirito. Shows like Higurashi, Madoka, Angel Beats! all know how to expand on more than one character and they are REALLY make you feel for each and every character. Higurashi especially knows how to make you feel for every single character even the fucking antagonist (although it is REALLY slow for most people). The idea of this plot was an amazing idea. The potential was incredible. And the writer went fuck all with it! He took every left when the right answer was right. Asuna and Yui are little bit of right he had in it but everything else is plain, boring, and overall disappointing.

I don't know about if it's why she's better, but this relates to what I was saying about saving her life. in the early days of sao, before the meeting to plan the boss raid, she walked into the dungeon and broke like, 3 or 4 rapiers fighting to get stronger without even stopping to eat or sleep. the only reason she didn't die was because Kirito found her as she collapsed of exhaustion purely by coincidence. The author also could not have killed off Asuna and had Kirito let go at that point, because of it's position in the book. he could have killed them both, killed just Asuna and had Kirito win but not bring Asuna back(which would have made it almost impossible to continue the story), or write it the way he did. If he had released Kirito he would have had to either skip the next 24 floors and go right to the final battle, or find some way to fill another entire novel with the content from the next 25 floors which would be a really repetitive, "explore dungeon, fight boss, save damsels in distress in spare time," thing. As far as Lizbeth's backstory, that entire thing was a small sidestory that was in the second novel. Right now the author is rewriting the aincrad arc in much greater detail, so we might see her backstory eventually, hopefully Silica's too, because you're right on how they could be and should be expanded more. Perhaps it'd be worth mentioning that silica was also a side story, just so you don't have to ask. As for how he should have been a leader, you are forgetting what happened right after the first boss battle. Taking the title of Beater pretty much made everyone in the game except for Agil and Asuna hate him, so nobody would want him as the leader, or even in their guild (which couldn't be formed until the third floor anyways). He was forced into being a solo player. Even nearing the end of the game people still had extreme dislike of him as evidenced by still being called a beater by Asuna's bodyguard as a way to sway her to not go with him.

On a mostly unrelated note, since you said you liked Angel Beats! you should watch Charlotte. It was made by most of the same people and is just as good if not better. Also, to the OP, sorry for hijacking your thread with our discussion

aítch1 votes

First off RIP OP but anyways... I like tragedy in anime (if you couldn't tell by Higurashi, Madoka, and Angel Beats! brought up) and was listening to Famous Last Words so killing off a great character felt good in my mind. I mean he could've done that and the commander would let him go because HE IS INSANE. The creator of SAO at a simplistic level is a psychotic sociopath. And seeing Kirito suffer because of Asuna dying would've excited him to say the least. That is why it makes sense why he could've and then rewrote the rest (also because I ship Liz x Kirito harder just sayin). Asuna I am ASUNing (get it assuming HAHAHA :D) work her ass off but I mean wouldn't LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE be working that hard day and night ESPECIALLY because other people had already played other games. I really don't get why he didn't turn Asuna into some secret gamer (like Umaru-chan from another anime) that was already really skilled in school and at games. Her character shouldn't have been a noob that was somehow really REALLY good at games she should've been someone who hid this hobby from her parents. Wouldn't that have drawn the story along?

Also Charotte eh? I'll get to that after I finish insert the 10 animes I still need to finish here

As far as everyone else working hard, the answer to that is a simple and sad no. Most people had never left the starting town (the name of which I cannot remember right now). Something that was brought up in one of the side stories (I think it was yui's, but don't quote me on that) was they spoke to a man sitting under a tree just outside the town who was waiting for a fruit to fall. he spoke of that fruit as though it were worth a fortune, but not only was it presumably inedible, it was worth a measly 5 col and dropped only a couple times per day. To put this in perspective, I'm pretty sure even the level 1 boar was shown to be worth more col, not including it's item and exp drops. Less than a third of the players went far past the safe zones on a level, and of them an even smaller portion were in the clearing group on the frontlines that pretty much included only portions of 2-3 big guilds, a couple small guilds like furinkazan, and 10-12 solo players. Also on a smaller note where I am by no means defending heathcliff, he did do everything in his power to keep people from dying in the game except for actually disabling the whole death thing (this is revealed to include fixing bugs throughout the course of the 2 years via some conversations between characters in the books). That being said he also did very little to facilitate the people's escape. Despite Heathcliff technically being the leader, Asuna was the one who did almost all the the planning for the clearing group's actions. I would really like to stop talking about this because I feel like we're gonna end up spoiling the entire series if we haven't already for anyone who hasn't watched the anime or read the books and stumbles across this. Also, we hit the limit on how far threads can go so I'm not notified when you reply anymore.
