The assumption is made because countless are the times we junglers ping a lane when we're five seconds out or something, the laner goes balls deep immediately and then is all like WTF WHY DIDN'T YOU BACK ME UP? /all USELESS JG OMG FF@20 OPEN MID.

We're taking scuttle at level three because our health's a bit low. We're waiting for a cooldown to end, or maybe we're also wondering if the path we're taking to your lane is warded and want to give the laner time to tell us it's warded so we can go another way in.

If my laner is getting tower dived, that's one thing. When they die near the midpoint or on the enemy's side of the river... then I tend to /sigh.

Because, usually, when i ping "omw" the toplaner starts shacking more and more, then he starts drooling rabidly and charges screeching into a losing trade with the enemy darius, so that when i actually arrive 2.6 seconds later darius is already 5-stacked and enjoying the taste of an easy double kill

If i still go in and die, darius gets a double and my toplaner will spend the rest of the game blaming me non-stop

If i just turn my back and let the imbecile die, darius gets only a kill but my toplaner tilts hard and afks on the spot

Honestly, idiots who ping I'M ON MY WAY, I'M ON MY WAY 4 - 5 times when they're nowhere near yet and are only halfway in the river need to stop jungling. How many fucking times i've died because i've engaged on instinct and had no support from the Jungler..

Your problem. On my way doesn't mean "I'm already there" it simply means that your ally will be there unless something interrupts it. Look at the minimap. If the jungler is close enough he will target the enemy champion or that's what I do atleast.

If someone spams 3 - 5 times, i'm assuming it's pretty urgent and i have no time to look at the map and should immediately go in. It's instinct.

Oh and it's not just my problem since their entire team gets an advantage from every kill they get including the one my Jungler could bait me to give.

Idk that seems a little extreme for instinct.

Now if you're already in a fight, and know you have to run then it may be instinct to turn if you get the "on my way" ping.

I'd agree with that one, it's happened to frequently. Please, if you are half a map away don't start pinging that you're coming in for backup while I'm fighting in a life or death situation. It's the difference between me going ham and investing everything into fighting and disengaging.

That said I would venture to guess that this is a thing that changes the higher elo you get. I would guess that the majority of people in plat+ keep a bit more awareness about their allies locations. Whereas in silver you can probably assume that your teammates only know where you are when they're out of combat for at least a few seconds.

The instinct part kicks in only when i know they're too deep in the lane and i need to seize the opportunity and not wander off checking the map so they can back out. Especially with slippery matchups.

Bad map awareness. It happened to me also. I mean you should consider jungler pinging omw won't come not at the right moment, not at all. Especially in lower elo.

That's why I usually just stand there and if they end up coming wait until the gank is completely telegraphed an recognized and once the enemy laner starts to run away I feebly chase after them completely out of the fight.

Is that not how you're supposed to do it?

I like to look at the inverse too (as a jungler myself):

laner requests help I ping on the way laner has stroke before im in river or tribush "An Ally Has Been Slain" /all "this jungler has downs"

Literally why I mute all every game now and just use pings to communicate.

I know omw just means omw. But as a laner for some reason we see the omw ping and that starts a time limit in our heads. For me omw means "engage!" I think it's the dozens of games where the jungler flames me for not going in before he gets there that has conditioned me tbh. I'd honestly just ping "on my way" when you're closer to their lane

In my experience as a JG main the best way to communicate a gank is by using the OMW ping in the lane you are going to and then use the attack this target ping to let the team know to Engage!

Map awareness is something that everyone needs to be working on especially when the JG is pinging OMW from fountain to bot or top to bot.

Gotta love being baited by your own team. My favorite is when i'm the team initiator and we have a 4v2 situation. I go in and then see that my other three teammates decided to go off to do who knows what. :P
