Sure, the undertale fanbase here seems to like posting pictures and stuff about it (and it's typically appropriate for the context, but w/e), but they haven't really given any reason to be hated (yet).
I mean, the game does seem a bit overhyped, but the game's alright and I can see why people like it. You don't see people bitching because someone made a champion montage and mock the LoL fanbase for it here.

At first glance it just looks like a sorta pretentious "classic" indie game that's tries to bank on the popularity of Earthbound and saying it's paying homage to it. There's all kinds of weird things about it I see and hear, like with how the Crowdfund run was not so good, the game has furry OCs inserted into it, they have a sense of "tumblr appeal" in it, all that stuff.
Not that I'm going about the place hating on it, but it does seem like the opposite of what I'd want to get into. Forgive me for not wanting to see any of it in a different game's message board, but it's not all too bad. You guys have a good setup for yourselves; reminds me of the global butthurt storm that was MLP back in 2011-early 2013. Those were the golden days.

Unpaladin1 votesThat's what I thought as soon as it took off. Seeing this kind of takeoff from a video game is a little out of the blue nowadays, so I figured it may be the setting and all the crazy things about it. It really sticks out, and while I don't know how it happened, it totally did.
At least Steven Universe isn't being posted on this board; even though there's a lot of UT posts showing up in different places at least it's not, well, Steven Universe. Good.

But he hid as bonus, ridiculous, commonly hated bosses the OCs that were originally intended for porn, and instead made cool elements of the story those who actually had some depth.

The ending changes depending on weather you killed none, some, or everyone.

There is a very comfortable middle ground between those two things, and I don't want Undertale ruined by being too liked, even if it's by a relatively small number of people who like it too much.
That middle ground is key. Like, say, being someone who misses Titanfall because it really was a great freaking game, or very much preferring Chrono Cross over Trigger, or being a hardcore Corpse Party and old-school horror game fan, or owning a Vita without a 3DS and without owning any new-gen consoles, or believing Nami is the sexiest champ in this entire game, for some examples.

About the topic at hand: I've completed the game once, and I can defenitely see why it's popular. Without writhing a 5000 word review, I think there are two major selling point:

Well, I was kinda using the term jokingly. In my personal dictionary a hipster is someone who avoids being mainstream just for the sake of not being mainstream. Also, someone who would never admit being a hipster nudge nudge
SelflessTeammate1 votesIt's been one week, I'm necromanc....necromancing...reviving this thread, because I keep feeling nagged as I read it over again that it went way off-topic because of me.
Two things. One, I haven't touched Undertale at all, because I couldn't avoid spoilers. Just wasn't possible after a point, really, not the way every Internet forum is now.
Two, I half-finished Neptunia U, but I'm getting (totally literally, by two of the characters, that series does not mess around with the fourth wall) taunted about all the post-game content. And oh man, there's a lot. Which may have never really been a discussion as much as a passing mention, but I'm just emphasizing that the prospect of actually advancing in Undertale just became even slimmer with the big spoilers.
And this is after I got the game to work on my TV with a Steam Link and a properly-configured controller. I need to motivate myself again, or it's gonna be Fatal Frame 2 all over again, as in, I'm gonna put it off for literally years after purchase on some random sale, then it's gonna end up being one of my favorite games, ever.
