Yes it does. The word "anime" is just "animation" transliterated into Japanese phonemes and then shortened. Being animated and originating in Japan is the only thing that makes something anime. There are countless animation styles produced by Japanese artists, and they are all anime. Many of the earliest ones were inspired by classic Disney. There is no such thing as an "anime style", no matter what misguided xenophobes and Japanophiles tell you.

They are though....lore wise they're cousins.

The only sibling pairs I can think of are Katarina and Cassiopia (?), Darius and Draven, Kayle and Morgana, and somewhat Nasus and Renekton.
