League design and balance team doing nothing right
Downvoting is fun, but if you have a different opinion feel free to share - skip it if you are fine with the game
So the reason why I put this discussion on the Memes&Games board is, well, because it's all just a meme now. It just cant be taken seriuosly
So after the Pre-season 8 big rune changes, I'm pretty sure League lost the biggest amount of old players - and no League is not dying and nothing is killing it (if not Riot themselves), it just loses the old players. I am aware of how important it is to make the game interesting and enjoyable even after playing it for years, but there is a big problem with the way Riot tries to preserve the game roght now. Just to make it clear, there is a difference between Removating and Changing, and this is something I'm sure Riot is not really aware of. So to point out: Rework - an old champ that's been the same for years, or may get useless or out of meta, gets a big change visually and mechanically - is a really good way of renovation. However, Removing elements of the game, like items, is not the right thing, well, not always. Just imagine getting attached to a certain item, or have a champion or a role that is really enjoyable beceause of one item (for eg. the old jungle was waaaay more fun than the current one), and it gets removed and never seen again. Losing components will occour in losing old players, but will not effect new players that never played during those times. It kind of feels like they just overlook this fact. Im not sure which part or which team in Riot is responsible for this, but they are doing something wrong. (The reworks are awesome btw, they seemingly never failed with them, so why dont they just keep those up)
So, the design team. Maan, just fire them. Not kidding. From Pre-season 8 the game has been changing from one way to the other. It kind of feels like they have a bunch of people arguing in a room and one makes a change, then the other just reverts it. Remember, somewhere in Pre-8, on the Tab window they changed the position of summoner spells and runes? I remember. It was awful. And than it was changed back in a week. And, if im right, the desing changes also go through the PBE testing. So how did a change like this got through the PBE testing but that got changed in the next patch. Unbelievable. And for the skins. Am I the only one who realized every recent skin is either a part of an already existing skingroup (Blood Moon, Dark Star, Pulsfire) or just an awfully bad idea? To talk about Pulsfire. It started out as an Ultimate Skin for EZ, and where are we now? 4 other champs have it now. I can imagine someone having a good idea, and make Pulsfire Ezreal as an Ultimate skin and than some other dude with no ideas comes up with 4 other champs having this skin. And the new Garen and Darius skins. GOD KING. Sounds like something a 6 year-old would come up first. Like how many awesome and fun skin ideas and concepts are on the internet? Just go and watch one video Riot. They are full of cool skin ideas.
And than it come sto the involvement of the player community (more like involvement of famous players only). They are doing it all the way wrong. So when hasinsin is whining about fighters being weak and have no useful rune, they added Conqueror. Man if I only knew a person that didn't hate that rune. And the desing and mechanic of that rKeystone is just so bad, it's like it was made in 2 minutes and than added to the game, just because a famous streamer (game advertiser) complained about it. And than what the fuck is up with Hail of Blades (a.k.a Letal Tempo 2.0). So there are 2 rune collumns with 4 keystones, but the others have 3. Designer failure. And than streamers complain about ADCs being strong, Riot literally ruins the ADC role, and they already plan on buffing them again. And again it's like one dude at Riot does everything the streamers ask, but then another dude with a brain tries to revert the change. Like cmon Riot. You have the numbers. You know what is right and what is wrong with the game. Why do you let these players ruin it. But than again, you dont listen to players when it comes to skin or design ideas. At least there is one case that i heard, with Tobias Fate and Dreadnova GP. But im not sure if it's true that he suggested the skin, but if it is, than good job Riot, you aren't actually a complete failure.
So all in all. When it comes to design, involve players! When it comes to balance and game changings, do not let players influence it. We know what players want, you know what the game needs. Dont make it the other way.
Oh and also, why would anyone listen to a complaint if the complainer has no solution. I will post another discussion about ideas and game fixations, followe me if you think the same.
