We're all people here

Caoil·Jul 4, 2014·22 votes·12,373 views

Power of Syndra made a forum post like this a few months ago, and I think sometimes we need a reminder that we're all people here in this community. There can be so much toxicity sometimes that I think players forget that they are playing with other people.

As a reminder that we're all people, I propose we tell each other a little bit about ourselves and maybe find others with common interests that we could connect with and play with in-game.

Hey this looks like a pretty fun exercise, and though I already ran today, more exercise can't hurt right? :P

*What are your 3 favourite champions? In order! Hecarim, Elise, Poppy (I'm a jungler, but if I get put top lane, Poppy is so much fun and has a lot of potential)

What is your favourite skin? I mean Arcade Hecarim is absolutely amazing, but I also really like SGU

When did you start playing LoL? I started playing about February of 2012, so preseason/early season 2

Why did you start playing LoL? I got injured and due to that cut from my Cross Country team, and some of my friends recommended it to fill the time that I used to spend at practice

What country/state/province/territory are you from? Massachusetts

What is your favourite food? Chicken Scampi is probably one of my favorites. Actually most chicken based pasta dishes are awesome

What is your favourite colour? Probably blue

What is your biggest pet peeve? Misuse of common phrases. Et Cetera is pronounced "ET Set ura" not "ECK set ura". Also, if you ever say "I could care less", that means you care, which is not the intended use of that phrase. The correct saying is "I couldn't care less"

What are 3 of your hobbies? Distance running, pickup sports (basketball/frisbee), gaming

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Somewhere tropical. If it has nice beaches I'll be fine!

If you were given $1 000 000, what would you do? Act as though I got a $50,000 for 20 years. Idk haha

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game? Sure :) I don't get in a ton of games but I don't see why not

Well that was an adventure! Definitely had some fun, looking forward to what other people say!!

-Insert Futurama fry meme here-

Not sure how saying is being (mis)used.

That is, I know the joke is that you're misusing it, but I'm totally lost about what question you're answering with it.

OblongOtterJul 11, 20141 votes

I'm just saying a misused phrase to mess with him (or her.) It doesn't really have context. Also a Rioter both replied to my comment AND winked at me. What do I do?!

RiotRiot KoinsJul 11, 20142 votes

Am I a Garen or a Lux ?

TiropatJul 11, 20141 votes

you seem to play things fast and lose like a Lux rather than close to the chest as Garen would.

RiotRiot KoinsJul 13, 20141 votes

Interesting analysis, now am I a or a Jayce ?

TiropatJul 13, 20142 votes

Interesting analysis, now am I a or a

I had to think about this for a bit but definitely a . As all your forum posts are as of right now on this topic you clearly wait for an opportune target before going in. A Jayce is less concerned with the target and more the timing but your posts are spread out over several days.

How did I do?

TiropatJul 14, 20142 votes

You do enjoy making this hard don't you?

What personality traits should I attribute to those items; both are selfish defensive items that aren't seen till late game.

Ah got it item 3075 is a specialized item only working against ad champs and only AA based champs well, whereas item 3102 is a more versatile item that shields you from damage Nidalee , catches Blitzcrank , and CC Elise in addition to increasing overall survivability with max Hp.

Hmmm. Is a network operations intern a specialist? I can't say for sure but the intern part makes me say maybe not. based on the hobbies and champs you have listed as what you enjoy those cover a rather wide range of pastimes and play styles so I have to settle on item 3102

I am rather enjoying this give me another.

OblongOtterJul 11, 20141 votes

I liked Lux before I liked Garen, so ima say Lux, just by virtue of who I played first. Also may I ask what you do at Riot if you don't mind? Like what your job is and what it entails?

Hyrum GraffJul 11, 20145 votes

Riot Intern - Network Operations

MarhsallLee67Jul 15, 20142 votes

Also, if you ever say "I could care less", that means you care, which is not the intended use of that phrase. The correct saying is "I couldn't care less"

This also pisses me off so much. Glad I'm not the only OCD grammar Nazi on LoL. ヽ(ﾟヮﾟ)ﾉ

When did you start playing LoL?

The same week Volibear was released, December 2011 if I remember correctly.

Why did you start playing LoL?

Hoenstly, a friend of mine (IGN Vanhour) kept harrasing me about the game. One day I really burned myself out on WoW and decided a new game would be a good thing. Funnily enough I hated the game at first because it was my very first MOBA, I did a bit of research, got a few tips, and when I came back I fell in love with the whole deal.

What country/state/province/territory are you from?

NA, Virginia. I'm surrounded by old people and terrible drivers, QQ! lol

What is your biggest pet peeve?

When people don't respect each other. I'm fine with arguments and fights, but when someone is rude to someone else without knowing their full story about anything at all it's disrespectful, unnecessary, impractical and generally just makes the rude one look like an idiot.

What are 3 of your hobbies?

This changes monthly, I dabble in a lot of different things. Right now it's: prop making, 3D Modeling and Blacksmithing

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Another tough one, going to say Australia but give a shout out to Ireland as I've been there before. Beautiful place, great people.

If you were given $1 000 000, what would you do?

Build several dozen small monuments in remote locations all across the U.S. with inspiring quotes and stories and an engraved QR code to create an awesome scavenger hunt that will last for decades while preserving a bit of history at the same time.

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game?

I'll decline you if you just randomly send my an inv, give me a heads up here on the forums or anywhere else you see me and I'll more than likely add you :)

MrBuffingtonJul 5, 20141 votes

Can I add you? (not to play, don't want to bring your elo down, just to say hi once in a while :P)

Sir ArmaMalumJul 5, 20142 votes

fearthenerdrageJul 5, 20144 votes

I completely agree about the garlic, but for me it isn't just pasta. Let me put it this way, I add garlic to my instant ramen.

MackleDogeJul 5, 20143 votes

Dude. I love doing that too. I don't know if you're a fan of popcorn but have you ever tried it with garlic salt instead of regular? I personally really really like it.

Sir ArmaMalumJul 5, 20142 votes

3 cheers for the love of garlic! I've even tried it on ice cream for a dare. Was actually not half-bad. :P

MackleDogeJul 5, 20142 votes

I imagine the good or not good quality of garlic on ice cream in a small portion would be largely dependent on the original flavor of the ice cream.

Sir ArmaMalumJul 5, 20144 votes

French Vanilla, and yeah, imagine chocolate chip mint with garlic, lol.

On another train of thought though, wouldn't a 'profile' with a few points on this questionarre be a good thing to have in the CB? Particularly things like "Openness to being friended in-game" and "Favorite Champs"? Don't want to go full social media here, but having 'my profile' actually be a profile, you know?

Crazy idea, yes or no?

MackleDogeJul 5, 20141 votes

Might have some merit, but then again I feel like it is a little bit beyond the scope of what these forums are supposed to do. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that given the nature of the community people might use it as a method of trolling and could lead to things like adding to insult or other related things that currently happen in the community. It has some positive aspects, but I'm not thrilled about the people that want to get butthurt over me not agreeing with them add me on smurfs to troll or spam me with garbage.

Sir ArmaMalumJul 5, 20143 votes

True true, I've just always thought the 'my profile' bit could be a bit more fleshed out, but as you said any decision along those lines will carry cons. I'll mull over it a bit but it's probably not worth it.

OblongOtterJul 6, 20142 votes

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game?

I don't play much these days, but sure, as long as you don't mind playing ARAM and Dominion (SR gets a bit tryhardy for my tastes). Post a reply here first, though, since I'll probably decline random invites.

What are your 3 favourite champions?

If you asked for one, I'd say Riven. But three? How could I pick that? I'm liable to list every mage that has a short-cooldown area skill on Q. Let's say Syndra and Ziggs.

What is your favourite skin?

Bewitching Nidalee? Sandstorm Katarina? Championship Riven? I HAVE NO IDEA

When did you start playing LoL?

During the Orianna patch, the week before her first free week. So... summer of 2011, three years ago?

Why did you start playing LoL?

I saw someone post a video of themselves playing AP Soraka. I recognized League from seeing it before, but this time I thought "I want to play THAT". Finding out there was Co-Op Vs AI made me actually download it (I'd had enough PvP experience in DotA for that to be a biiiiig plus)

What country/state/province/territory are you from?

De great state of Khalifoania. Oh yas.

What is your favourite food?

SUGAR.

What is your favourite colour?

Everything that falls between Red and Yellow!

What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who turn everything into an argument. Not every conversation is a debate. Is it such an alien concept that people might speak with each other for a sense of camaraderie or empathy?

What are 3 of your hobbies?

Voracious reading, coming up with unusual questions, tinkering with game mechanics of all kinds. ALL. KINDS.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

France I guess? California is pretty nice though. It doesn't leave me with much desire to travel.

If you were given $1 000 000, what would you do?

Get a home. That would be nice.

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game?

But... you didn't even ask me about my playstyle! How would they know?!

(Yes, I'm fine with that, but I'm not on very often. And I generally lean towards Dominion, filthy heathen that I am)

Feel free to answer as many of the questions as you want, or make up your own questions. This is just a fun exercise.

Oh, okay!

If you could cosplay as a champion, who would it be?

Well, I really only have the figure for Jinx. Oh, I forgot to put her as one of my favorite champs, dang.

Do you have passion for other genres of games outside of league?

Why yes I do! I LOVE Procedural Death Labyrinths and Roguelikes. It took me a very long time to realize it though. I played a couple as a kid and really liked them, but didn't realize until just recently that they were a whole genre! Now I am drowning in wonderful things because slapping the word "Roguelike" onto your indie game is a big fad right now, and some are very gooooood~

I'd say I have an UNDYING PASSION FOR ALL GAMES but that's not true, there's a couple genres out there I just can't get into.

MackleDogeJul 5, 20142 votes

If could cosplay

Talon, I really like his design and kit.

Other genres

RPGs, specifically JRPGs. I love the level grinding and gear hunting or crafting. The thousands of hours I have going through getting the exact stat I need on crafted gear is really rewarding to me.

I really like PDLs, but I'm absolutely terrible at them. Any advice on how to improve?

ArblisJul 5, 20143 votes

Aw man, I do love a good JRPG. I've finally gotten around to playing Final Fantasy V just recently (the GBA version). I feel terrible for not playing it sooner, it's friggin wonderful. XD

As for improving at Procedural Death Labyrinths.. my advice changes based on what kind it is-

Actiony Dungeon Crawler Like Spelunky / the Binding of Isaac: Waste a little time when there's just one enemy around and pay very close attention to how it moves and attacks. Focus yourself on learning how that single enemy works- the more you can learn about each specific enemy, the easier it'll be for you to fight them later, letting you avoid damage and save your health to take a few hits from the next new foe or particularly cruel setup you run into.

Turn-Based Such as Sword of the Stars: The Pit / Dungeons of Dredmor / One Way Heroics: Throw everything you've got in a blind panic. Not.. really a good move for long-term survival, but if you have an "uh-oh!" moment, just find SOMETHING to throw at the situation- it's the best way to learn how to get out of tight spots, and how else are you going to figure out which enemies can be cheesed with a quick invisibility item, or whether you can afford to throw grenades at your feet?

The biggest skill for any kind of Procedural Death Labyrinth is being able to learn and adapt- even if it means getting yourself killed doing risky things. When you've experienced just how risky every little trick or tactic is, you can better judge when to use them!

TL;DR an item that teleports you to a random location is one of the most powerful safety tools you have.

When did you start playing LoL?

I started playing League three weeks before season 3 World Championship group stages.

Why did you start playing LoL?

I started playing League because a few friends wanted me to play it with them.

Where are you from?

I'm from the United States, specifically California though I currently live in Georgia.

Favorite food

Deep dish pizza with pepperoni and bacon. Crust glazed with butter garlic sauce.

Favorite Color

Crimson.

Biggest pet peeve

When people interrupt me while I'm talking, specifically after I sat there and listened to them without interrupting.

What are 3 of your hobbies?

Soccer, Programming, Gaming

Travel

Japan

1 Million Dollars

I'd pay off what is left on my car, donate 50,000 to cancer research (RIP my best friend's mother who we lost to cancer), and then save the rest for some traveling, purchase of a house, etc.

Since I saw people doing this earlier, I figured I might as well, despite being REALLY LATE TO THE PARTY (please don't hurt me).

What are your 3 favourite champions? Lucian, Jinx, Jayce (in order) -- I'm an AD Carry, but the odd time I don't get my role, I'll play something like Jayce for the mechanics challenge :)

What is your favourite skin? Battlecast Urgot. Who doesn't like death crabgots?

When did you start playing LoL? The earliest account I remember creating was 2010, but I lost my credentials to an earlier account I had during open beta.

Why did you start playing LoL? I came from the DotA scene; friends recommended it to me as a "MOBA alternative" -- and I sure as heck wasn't paying for any competitor games if I could just play this for free!

What country/state/province/territory are you from? Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was born in a different city in Ontario, but that's where I'm from!

What is your favourite food? Shrimp Tempura. I'm a heavyset guy because I choose to love food. I don't particularly like a lot of fried foods, but Shrimp Tempura is just there because it combines flavour and seafood, two of my favourite things. I'd put Green Tea ice cream up there too.

What is your favourite colour? This is going to sound weird, but pink. I'm a Math student at Waterloo, and our "faculty" colour is pink. I've pretty much associated with it entirely since I started university.

What is your biggest pet peeve? People who continually misuse or misspell English words or phrases, ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERNET. I especially dislike the misuse of "they're", "their", "there", and words with double consonants that people often forget to put.

What are 3 of your hobbies? (Rubik's) Cubing, gaming, vlogging.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I'm a huge city person, so I really want to see the metros of the world - Germany, France, Australia -- you name it, I'm usually game!zzz

If you were given $1 000 000, what would you do? Invest 3/4 of it in Bitcoin (the price is going to skyrocket!), and the last 1/4 to give to meaningful causes and things I believe in but couldn't afford to help (Wikipedia comes to mind here).

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game? I guess? -- I mostly play ranked these days, but if I have a craving to play an ARAM or a normal at the office I'm usually game to play with anyone.

Final comments?!

I like trains. :D

PolaritieJul 8, 20141 votes

Actually, Bitcoin has, iirc, basically gone to hell since the largest exchange got hacked and closed. Nobody wants anything to do with it for the $$$ exchange, so... yeah.

RiotShaodowJul 8, 20141 votes

Well, that's why it went down to < $500 USD/BTC. It's hovering at around $630-650 right now, meaning I still made a stellar profit!!

In any case, if it wasn't in Bitcoin, it'd probably be in really safe ETFs with ridiculously high dividends.

What are 3 of your hobbies? Thinking, composing, martial shooting

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I'm torn between Antarctica and Finland

If you were given $1 000 000, what would you do? Invest it in such a way that I can live off the returns for the rest of my life. What that would entail exactly depends on the current economic climate and what I feel like doing. Maybe I'd just buy a bunch of T-bills and live off the $20 000 - 30 000 per year in returns. Maybe I'd fund a promising start-up and get rich for real.

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game? Duh

I think all this exercise hurt my brain :( WHY DOES MY COMPOSING HOBBY TURN INTO A PICTURE OF MY CAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT CAT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE RITO Y U DO DIS

What are your 3 favourite champions? Hmm... probably Anivia (my first favorite, but sadly less usable these days), Nidalee (Yay for the return of kitty power! I've always loved mauling people with her), Vi (The attitude.)

What is your favourite skin? Battle Bunny Riven. Look closely at the splash, and tell me it's not her "why the hell am I wearing this I'LL KILL YOU!".

When did you start playing LoL? Oh boy. I couldn't give a date offhand. It was sometime in the middle of the ninja trio. After Akali I think. Somewhere in there.

Why did you start playing LoL? Because I was bored and looking for any free game to waste a few hours on before uninstalling.

What country/state/province/territory are you from? MN

What is your favourite food? Sushi. There's a great place at the MoA. 3rd floor, south side (there are a ton of restaurants there, plus one of the two food courts. Also, the place is trying to take back the title of biggest mall in NA with some expansions).

What are your 3 favourite champions?

Thresh, Maokai and Braum - I'm a Support through-and-through, I fail miserably in other roles. Thresh was the first champion I ever bought, and I never looked back once I did.

What is your favourite skin?

Championship Thresh. I spent weeks waiting for its release, desperately hoping it would come out before I started work and wouldn't have time to play. I never play thresh without it now.

When did you start playing LoL?

About a year ago, or just short of a year ago. I'd come from an MMO background but was looking for something a bit less intense while I had uni work etc to do.

Why did you start playing LoL?

Was asked by a friend to check it out, and figured I'd give it a go. I spent years refusing to play WoW then got totally addicted, so I figured this time when I was asked to try a new multiplayer I'd be more open.

What country/state/province/territory are you from?

Great Britain. Hums national anthem, sips tea

What is your favourite food? Pizza. I don't think I've ever gotten bored of pizza. I eat a lot of pizza. Mmmm... Pizza....

What is your favourite colour?

Blue!

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Right now? Inept management who are yet to show why anyone thought they'd be successful in that role. But that's just the biggest right now.

What are 3 of your hobbies?

Gaming, Watching TV, Film etc, and going to zoos to see all the animals.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Nowhere, I'm happy where I am. If I could choose to live anywhere, probably somewhere with faster internet.

If you were given $1 000 000, what would you do?

Pay off debts, invest wisely, try and find a way to make sure I don't have to work anymore through investment/interest gains. Maybe buy a house so that I have the security. Then I can do what I want, work if I want, chill if I want, whatever.

If someone here is interested in playing with you, would you like them to add you in-game?

Sure! Whether I'll actually play with them is another matter. I leave myself logged in a lot when I'm not here.

BONUS ROUND: - Are you really this boring?

Yes. Yes I am.

BONUS BONUS ROUND: Who would you cosplay?

If I ever got into shape (that wasn't round) Braum. My partner made me a Poro and everything :3 If I didn't want to break my "don't cosplay outside your body type" rule, it'd have to be Gragas. Probably Gragas Esq. Because I think he looks cool. Outside of League, it's either The Kingpin from Spider-Man, or a Snorlax (because I am one.)
