Yeah back on the original Red and Blue versions for gameboy color. Those were the days. I still feel some pride for facing misty in the second gym with a level 42 Blastoise lol!

I had the Yellow version for a while, but after having already beaten the Blue version six times I never felt like playing the Yellow version much. Course when the Gold version came out I wasn't able to put it down.

I loved Gold! The cell phone system made me feel like the game didn't end!

I loved how you could saved a little money from each battle and when you finally went and checked how much you had you were rich.

I also loved how they included the entire Kanto region in it as well. The game just seemed so huge, and had great nostalgia to it when you beat the elite four and and then visit the Kanto region.

I had the original trilogy, the second trilogy, Ruby and Saphire, the TCG one, That tetris like puzzle game, Mystery dungeon blue, Platinum, Diamond, and i finally stopped with Soul Silver. Still play Soul Silver to this day.

Still impressed it's survived 20 years.

I didn't feel pride till I reached the 4th gym and learned the dangers of relying too heavily on one pokemon in your team, just cause plant type happens to be effective against the first 3 gyms >.> Kids today have it so easy with Exp. share. Back in my day, you had to use your whole team in order to keep them up to par with gym leaders.

Yeah I remember. The older versions were a lot harder than the newer ones. You have to grind wild pokemon, as well as fight every trainer to get your team up to a decent level to fight the gyms. With the newer ones you only have to use one pokemon to fight every trainer and you never had to grind against wild pokemon.

The older versions were a lot harder to be sure.

Grinding was the only form of exp I knew. Made my introduction to MMO's a living hell.

Me:Leveling is so slow! Friend: Habe you been questing? Me: Questing? No, I've been grinding mobs.

The real victory was winning against misty with Charmander. I hunted for a week in virdian forest for the mythical Pikachu and Pidgeotto that existed in there. Charmander had a more effort payoff because it was a struggle.

In gen 1 it did too - which was changed in gen 2. However, back in gen 1, you had to scroll through each pokemon getting some of the exp from each fight... so most of us threw it in the computer and never looked back (there was a bag limit back then, too, which didn't make keeping it any more enjoyable.)

to be fair, the game was mostly over by the time you got it in Red and Blue. I believe it was in Fuschia City... so like 6th gym or something? Anyway, you get it after the 1st gym these days.

Shedinja wasn't a thing back in the original games and honestly every time I use him, the enemy just switches out to something that can hit him, so I can't really say I can rely on him alone either (though I do like Shedinja).

Shedinja was introduced in gen 3, ruby sapphire and emerald. The ruby/sapphire remakes just came out last year-ish. they're not bad, but not quite as good as the gen 2 remakes... and honestly, I'm avoiding all of the newer games now. shit's gotten ridiculous.

This is far more accurate for me (support main), majority of times that I die is protecting my lane partner and they just respond "lol stop feeding" or "trash support gg". And I'm just sitting there, thinking what I did to deserve that.
