What mistakes did you make when you first started playing?

Title.

And by first starting playing, I don't mean "back when I was Bronze" or whatever. I mean what did you not know before you hit level 30.

For example:

When I first started I watched a lot of League youtubers so I didn't get THAT much wrong, but I used to think that red buff and blue buff were equal in strength to dragon. Also, whenever people said that you needed smite to get jungle items, I legit thought that it was part of a cross-promotion deal where you would get jungle items if you also had a Smite account.

My biggest mistake would be.... Creating an account. : ^)

I thought the league community was friendly. Boy did I learn quick

I thought you could use all abilities on towers. My first kill was when I tried to Ashe ult a tower and I hit a low health enemy in spawn.

summoner 4 "teleports your champion-"

Oh Nice._ Scrolls across map and flashes_

Wait where am I?

"-a short distance."

Oh....

Also, thought smite was a dumb spell. Why waste a slot when you can kill easily kill minions yourself. That was before I was exposed to jungling.

When I first started playing league of legends, I thought you would level each ability equally, like every level, I would put a point into a different ability, (for example, q, w, e, q, w, r, e, q, w, e) I used to do this all the time until someone told me that was not what you were supposed to do, lol. Also I thought that Flash was a useless ability because I was always like, "why would you use flash to move such a short distance on the map and have it on cooldown for so long when you could just use ghost to move around the map quickly"

I used to think there was this huge bug on teemo.... since every time i pressed E nothing would happen, so I would rage in chat about how riot's game doesn't fucking work because when i pressed E nothing would happen. Little did I know....

Marshbouy12/5/2016, 12:58:22 AM12 votes

used to build ADCs defensively. I'm talking like warmogs and thornmail on twitch as my first items.

NekoniClaws12/5/2016, 7:06:13 AM11 votes

My friend's gold buddies took me into a PVP as soon as I could PVP... and I built item 3147 on Sona

Now they call me Duskblade.

Echo54512/5/2016, 7:28:17 AM9 votes

I didn't know you could build smaller items into bigger ones. So I would always sit around, then 15 or 20 minutes into the game I pull a item 3089 out of nothing. I also thought revive was better than flash

Me playing Master Yi: "Ok, so my Q is my big damage ability. But I need more power for this ability. Hm... ability power..." item 1052 item 1052 item 1052 item 1052

There we go!

Mine is the worst one at least from what I read here. You see LOL was my first MOBA so I had no idea how to cast skills, so I used to cast them by clicking on ability icons with my mouse and then throwing them also with my mouse so I played entirely with mouse and didnt use qwer and df or god forbid smartcast :D

i took summoner 11 to show off that I was level 10

EndlessSorcerer12/5/2016, 2:45:41 AM6 votes

I started around pre-season 3.

My biggest mistake was not building four Black Cleavers on every AD champion.

420 grams12/5/2016, 1:18:34 AM5 votes

I thought ap increased everyone's abilities better and ad did only everyone's autos.

Cap7ain Teem012/5/2016, 12:52:45 AM4 votes

I watched lcs before i started playing so i got most of it , but i didn't understand how some spells scaled ad some scaled ap, and so I wasn't sure if a midlaner like syndra had an ap autoattack

Sozan512/5/2016, 11:26:48 AM4 votes

I build Singed AD and commented: "He's just a much weaker version of Yi.".

Played full AP Sona mid. And when I say full, I mean it:

item 3003 item 3003 item 3003 item 3003 item 3100 item 3089

It was back when Archangel stacked. I believe I used to have 1,3k AP or so with this build. xD

My biggest mistake in league was never playing pvp until season 5 lol i started in season 2 hit level 30 in season 3 and just played bot games and custom games for about 3-4 years played one pvp game and it was with master yi vs kayle in the top lane i was 1-13

Those were good times thank you for this post put a smile on my face*[zombie-nunu-hearts]*

As i read the main post i saw that jungle comment about the smite thing i remember thinking to myself that you needed an expansion pack in order to jungle in the game as was my mind set coming from world of warcraft and runescape you pay to be able to experience the WHOLE game

Purpl3Jungl312/5/2016, 1:13:52 PM4 votes
  1. I couldn't jungle because I didn't know leasges were a thing.
  2. I didn't know why each champion had a specific lane & why it made a difference.
  3. I couldn't build. My full build used to almost always be 8 Gems. I never build Damage on any champs.
  4. I too thought buffs were impossible to 1v1. Till I saw a utube vid of someone doing it at lvl 2, I was so amazed lol
  5. I didn't know what the point of lanes were; I thought if my whole team just pushed mid from the start we'd win instantly. and 6. I didn't know ADC meant AD Carry till I asked someone; till then I was playing AP bot lane all the time

Building nothing but Stingers on Ashe because of the 50% attack speed, and being totally convinced that it was the most OP thing ever. Extreme confusion regarding the difference between AP and AD, and armour and magic resistance. Always buying spellthief's edge as my first item for the gold generation, then going straight to Nashor's Tooth and Will of the Ancients, no matter what I was playing. I don't know why. Building ridiculous trash just so I could have 40% CDR, like having one Nashor's Tooth and one Stinger on Karthus, because "40% CDR, AP and AS? What more could I possibly ask for?" Build zero defensive items. Pure glass cannon, every single time. Then I'd complain about how champions were OP because they could delete me so easily. Gee, I wonder why? Thinking Lich Bane was 100% useless on Sona, because it "only had 80 AP and a bunch of useless stats". oh boy. Hextech gunblade on Soraka. I've lost a coop game before. That was my first game on my current main. Building multiple Warmog's because I was certain that it was the best way to be tanky.

Dabrick0112/5/2016, 2:23:48 PM3 votes

item 3068 item 3068 item 3068 item 3068 item 3068 item 3068 on Malphite

I sat there calculating the dmg i would do per second. It was like in 250 at lvl 18.

Unique passives may not stack, but the intro bot Ezreal couldn't do shit to me.

I ran into a Katarina once who had been playing Katarina almost nonstop since level 10 or so, she said she had made her account in S3 - this was S5. She had absolutely no clue what Quick Cast was.

We had to tell her what it did and noticed she wasn't using it because of how slow her combos were.

PROJECT Katarìna12/5/2016, 6:39:32 AM2 votes

buying more than one boots and attack speed on Chogath

PrimordialChaos12/5/2016, 6:15:55 PM2 votes

I thought that you would keep the level of your champion when they game ends. I thought that every time you started a new game, the game was broken and it didn't save data.[zombie-brand-mindblown] [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Vicious Vortex12/5/2016, 6:53:07 PM2 votes

back in season 1 i used to think that true damage went through shields so when i was janna, i would never shield people who were ignited. Also, when i would play mord and he said "you only have to click once fool" I got scared because i thought he was specifically talking to me

Blades in Exile12/5/2016, 2:00:11 AM1 votes

I always used to chase close to death champs way to long and fed, I cant remember the account name but I will always remember that Volibear that told me to stop chasing so far and play more conservative, even my actual brother who played the game for around a year at the time didn't help that much at the beginning.

Escheton12/5/2016, 1:32:29 PM1 votes

I started a ranked game at level 1. Did not know ANYTHING. Got killed by cs. Fed like mad. Didn't buy anything because I didn't know it reset between games. Got yelled at A LOT. Good times?

Milleinia12/5/2016, 8:06:46 AM1 votes

I didn't know we only get 3 refunds and spent them all in 10mins trying to get diana and cait (first champions I ever owned in the game). Have regretted that ever since
