Garen and Darius are two sides of the same coin

Darius: Kills people because he's told too.

Garen: Kills people because he's told too.

The difference: Garen acts like a knight of the crusades and is no better then one, Darius does it to make Noxus stronger and also enjoys killing.

Garen: Believes that the only true Justice for criminals is death and exile.

Darius: Believes you are guilty if you die.

The Difference: One passes Judgement in the name of Noxus, the other for Demacia.

Darius: Brainwashed.

Garen: Brainwashed.

The Difference: Darius was Brainwashed by Noxus, Garen was Brainwashed by Demacia.

Garen: Lives in a city-state with a false freedom.

Darius: Lives in a city-state where freedom is earned.

The Difference: Demacia has no freedom, Noxus has freedom....kinda.

In conclusion Both Garen and Darius are the same kind of asshole, the asshole kind

I would not say either of them are brainwashed. Darius believes in strength, and just because Noxus is all about strength doesn't mean he's brainwashed. He has shown that he's a true believer of such an ideal both by killing his CO and by joining Swain, whom he believes will Make Noxus Great Again. And you say that Darius enjoys killing, which I think is wrong. I don't think he goes around murdering people because it is fun, that's Shaco. He kills when he deems it necessary. When someone is weak, or someone is in his way.

Garen could be argued to be brainwashed if you go merely by his in-game quotes. However, a big part of him is his relationship with Katarina, an assassin from Noxus and someone he should have killed by now. Yet, that is not the case. In fact, he has protected and worked with her at one point in time, at least in the old JoJ. He also believes in the cause he is fighting for, but is not completely zealous. I think his reaction to Taric proves that too, considering he allowed the man to be exiled instead of outright executed. Given his situation, this was the best possible outcome Garen could provide.

In my personal headcanon, both are descended from Mordekaiser, and in fact Demacia and Noxus reflect the two results of Mordekaiser's empire fracturing following his fall: one side clung tightly to his ideals while another side fervently opposed them.

I wouldn't say that Darius is brainwashed. He supports Swain, who killed the last leader. If he doesn't like Swain, he'll withdraw support.

At the end of the day, I'd rather live in Demacia. Yeah, I'm free to get my blood sucked out from 30 feet away because I looked at Vlad wrong while walking down the street. I'd rather be forced to have food and a nice city that isn't riddled with those free to get ahead by murdering the guys above them.

They also share similarities in kit. Spin to win (tho garen popularized it), empowered autos (Decisive Strike and Darius's w, Crippling Blow or something like that?) , STACKS! (Garen w, darius passive), and an execute ult (sayyy, why does Garen need to execute people, hmmmm??).

But If Garen and Darius are the same... what about Lux and Draven o - o

Sounds like something a filthy accursed Noxus villain would say

According to you every soldier is brainwashed, I don't think Garen is brainwashed, He is a soldier who protects his country while Noxus I think is even know to brainwash soldiers or create them like Sion or somewhat Urgot, with the help of Zaun but still, also personally don't know if Darius is brainwashed, maybe he does it to kill people without consequences, there are people who enjoy that thing even in real life.

To sum up: freedom isn't as good as you make it to be, Mureeca.
